Okay, so IGN just did a list of the top ten Avatar episodes, here they are.

10. Avatar Aang
9. The Blue Spirit
8. Bitter Work
7. The Firebending Masters
6. The Crossroads of Destiny
5. Tales of Ba Sing Se
4. The Avatar and the FireLord
3. Zuko Alone
2. The Siege of the North: Part 2
1. The Storm

I thought this was a decent list, it seemed to have the pieces but in the wrong order. At one point, they said the series finale wrapped up all the loose ends, which makes me wonder if they actually saw it, and I don't know what Zuko Alone is doing this high, but I've seen worse lists.

Anyway, discuss and make some lists of your own!

I think Crossroads of Destiny is a little overrated. Very good in the last part and with Azula's speech to Long Feng, but the rest of the episode felt kinda rushed.
Imho the scene between Zuko and Katara was not that well written, also the fighting coreography was weaker than usual.

Personal top ten:
10. The Drill (just for the kickass animation)
9. The Awakening
8. The Blind Bandit
7. The Library
6. The Avatar State
5. DOBS Part 2: The Eclipse
4. The Siege of the North: Part 2
3. Avatar Aang
2. The Waterbending Master
1. Into the inferno

I left out a lot of episodes I loved, and my list would probably change if I rewatched the series.

The Great Divide was the episode on air when I first watched the show and something on it convinced me to give it a chance and watch the series. So it can't be that bad. At least it doesn't have a preachy moral about "always telling the truth even if it good for nothing".

I'm not even gonna bother looking for a reaction image to fit my rage, sadness, and confusion.
Just...no. No.

No.81161
How could anybody put The Southern Raiders on a shitlist? That was easily one of my favorite eps.

No.81177
>>81161

My younger sister hates the episode, and Katara in the entire Book 3 because "She's such a bitch." I thought the Southern Raiders showed a different side of Katara, the once again appeared during the finale. And, as much as I hate Zutara and its shippers, I like their interaction in the episode.

No.81194
>>81161

Seriously.

And personally, The Painted Lady doesn't deserve to be in it as well.

No.81202
Nightmares and daydreams is fucking awesome. NOT shit tier. Oh no.

No.81232
>>81177

You probably like their interaction because there was almost no subtext in their interactions. It did very little for the Zutara ship, other than stop Katara from hating Zuko (as much).

My only problems with the Southern Raiders are two-fold.

First, the opening scene where Azula attacks the group feels way too rushed. It puts half of current gang on a bus until after the finale, including Hakoda, who we had just spent two episodes breaking out of prison. What's more, Azula seems a bit too over-the-top. She's far more frenzied and manic than usual, which doesn't really fit with her being paranoid and depressed just a few episodes later. It's like the writers just wrote the attack in to split up the group and get the main Gaang out of the Western Air Temple.

My second problem is the fact that Katara uses bloodbending, something that she had previously vehemently opposed. The real tragedy at the end of The Puppetmaster was that Katara was forced to bloodbend to protect Sokka and Aang. She acted like she had committed some kind of mortal sin in doing so, even if it was justified. But then she turns around and uses it again the very next full moon. It ruins the emotions she previously had about it.

But the encounter she has with the man who killed her mother is pretty awesome. The way she stopped the rain really hammered home just how screwed the guy was.

'Nightmares and Daydreams' is probably my favorite episode except for 'Avatar Aang.'

>>81091
'The Great Divide' belongs on the meh tier. It is the only episode on this tier. There is no shit tier for AtLA.

>>81232
Yeah. To me 'The Southern Raiders' was all one big Katara=>BROFIST<=Zuko. Which is awesome.

>She's far more frenzied and manic than usual, which doesn't really fit with her being paranoid and depressed just a few episodes later.

Maybe she's bipolar?

I actually liked that. It showed just how vengeful she was about this, and how much her hunt for revenge was twisting her morals.

Anyway, my least favorite episodes are Imprisoned, Warriors of Kyoshi, and The Great Divide. They're all just meh tier though, I can't think of an Avatar episode that I actually hate.

No.81238

I like the idea of a Katara and Suka friendship because they always feel like the polar opposites of each other, but not exactly in a way that would work romantically, since it seems that uko puts up a front of anger to hide any feelings of hurt/rejection, while Katara has this front of always being hopeful/motherly/the morale boost while concealing any anger she has over her mothers death. I always thought she was just as pissed off as Sokka usually is about what happened to their mother/the Northern Water Tribe, but knew she had to play the straight man to avoid losing Sokka, and later any of team Avatar.

It's funny, though, because with that, I always see Azula and Sokka as the polar opposites of each other, but that's kind of off topic.

For quite a few individuals I know, before they get ubber depressed about something they have a higher tendency to just explode on people. It was only just a day or some after the TBR part 2, I'm sure that since she knew where they were she just got the anger to want to start something immediately, something to distract her.

The moment she lost sight of them, the moment she was stuck to herself and her paranoia and depression really kicked in.

And to Katara using the bloodbending again, I was absolutely fine with it. It not only showed just how blood-raged she was to finally get the guy who killed her mother, but almost immediately afterwards she realized just how much anger she had invested in this now weak man and using bloodbending is probably what internally told her "Wait, what am I doing here? This isn't right" and what at that moment stopped her from actually killing him.
