Drake looks... so dumb...

Though I suppose I'm resentful because I really liked his hat.

Kidd got fucked UP.

He's giving me Cable vibes now, Guy with a metal arm using his powers to keep it intact.

The only Supernova that has done anything mildly important is Law, so as far as we go, they're still mostly a useless arm of the series.

>>23083
I know Oda's gonna make them work.. eventually, but I really think most of these characters shouldn't even have been introduced. Law, Bonney and maybe Kidd would have been nice additions to Sabaody on their own. Their combined progress so far, and the fact they were apparently made in a matter of hours make it really hard to disregard that old rumor about the Supernovas only being made cause they forced Oda to "spice" up the series.
>> No. 23090
>>23089
why the fuck would one piece need spicing up? It's the most popular manga of all time.

Anyways, they were a good chance for Oda to show some new powers, and I guess he DID show another crop of supernovas with caribou, lip service doughty, and albion (albatross?). But they'll slip from memory as these guys take the limelight. I like them, but I think Oda should have just introduced them gradually in the new world as world rookies making a name for themselves rather than all at once.

Anyways, it's not a huge deal. Oda still handles world building better than anyone else.

Back when they were coming out of Thriller Bark it wasn't. Different time, different records. One Piece also had more competition back then. As the story goes, the.. er.. editors? I dunno, his Overlords, talked him into making new wacky characters to spice stuff up. And that's how the Supernova were born.
>> No. 23094
I find drake very interesting. Guy's a X-marine.

He's probably joined up with aokiji.

So... nobody's referencing that Law seems to be wearing a coat instead of just a t-shirt now? Or the fact that we've yet to see their full outfits and therefore some of them may look radically different from the neck down?
>> No. 23097
Oda added the supernova because he felt like it, it wasn't an editorial order or anything. Just from a writing point of view, having a small bunch of independent and diverse characters with diverse skills who can appear at any moment is very handy. So, he managed to set up his world so that a single area becomes a logical gathering place, introduces them to add a bit of flair to a necessary transition arc, and gives them just enough character, screentime, and billing that people don't easily forget them. Pretty slick.

>>23093

Hahaha, even back in the day One Piece was ridiculous. I'm talking when One Piece fans would legitimately recommend Naruto and Bleach, and Paulie was going to be be the next crewmember instead of Kaku. It was always expected to surpass Dragon Ball. Sure, it didn't outsell the top 10 combined, but a smaller lead is still a lead.

I still recommend any Naruto story not involving Sasuke or eye cancer.

No you don't understand, the original head of AP forums used to openly love and translate the new Naruto and Bleach chapters. Like, imagine if instead of Big 3 being derisive and slightly sarcastic it legitimately meant the 3 biggest jump manga that everyone looked forward to every week. Can you imagine a bunch of One Piece fans getting hyped that Naruto filler is going to end? Or being only slightly bemused that Las Noches consisted mostly of blank white walls? Just thinking back to that time is pretty surreal.

Not with how Narujesus was doing everything on his own for the longest time.

And how Kyuubi is now suddenly being friendly after all this time.
>> No. 23113
I never really got into any online communities for One Piece, i've only ever talked about it with friends and such. I can't imagine I missed much based on what was apparently a very big debate over who would join for Water 7 that still is of note today.

>Not with how Narujesus was doing everything on his own for the longest time.

Killer B solved that problem.

>And how Kyuubi is now suddenly being friendly after all this time.

You mean Kurama? Yeah, he was facing enslavement of friendship and helping with Naruto and besides, he's still only begrudgingly helped him after Hachibi asked him too.

The only bad part of the war arc so far was the retarded "WHO IS THIS MASKED MAN EVERYONE KNOWS IS TOBI?"
>> No. 23115
>>23114

>You mean Kurama?

Still fucking stupid. The dumbest easily avoidable thing in fiction. You don't see Jotaro being bffs with Star Platinum. Why? Because it's one of those things that is so cheesy and cliche that it actively kills any seriousness with a rusty pink knife. No lie, if One Piece comes out with devil fruit users actually having an internal devil, which they befriend for power ups, I will drop the series like a warm piece of shit. Even referring to a character's negative emotions or inappropriate impulses as their "darkness" would be better. Wait maybe not.

Luffy: Gomu gomu chan stay out of this battle it's too deep for you
Gomu Gomu: No Luffy I will hold your darkness back and be your light because... i love you.
*the confession is ignored for like a hundred chapters*

Uh, thats a completly different situation. Star Platinum is an extension of Jotaro's self, it would be like being friends with your arm. The tailed-beasts are actually seperate entities.

I don't think you actually understand that Naruto and Kurama are separate beings.

As for Jotaro, he never was friends with his stand, but he sure was fond of posing sexually with it, as are most Stand users.

Anecdote time: I actually once came upon a website while looking for fanart that was picture after picture of Trafalgar Law and Urouge interacting together. Completely platonically, as far as I could tell - sometimes they'd be hugging or something, but that was as far as it got.

If it had just been, like, one or two pictures, I wouldn't have given it another thought, but those pictures were literally a large chunk of the website. I think there were like 20+ in total?

It ended up weirding me out more than stumbling onto porn would have.

His is a fur spotted hat. Those just look more like surgical caps. Cool find, though. I think it would be interesting to see Law come in during the Vegapunk arc as an ex scientist/medic with a regretful past.

Since people are wondering what will happen with the Supernovas, I've got a theory that each Supernova may be meant to fight a member of the Straw Hat Crew. Some of them have conflicting ideals or abilities with the Straw Hats, while others seem to have similar goals despite their motives or methods of achieving them.

KIDD - LUFFY (Captains with high ambitions)
LAW - CHOPPER (Doctor skills)
KILLER - SANJI (Hands vs Feet)
DRAKE - ZORO (Epic swordfights, possibly one-eyed staring contest?)
APOO - BROOK (Music battle? You know you want it.)
CAPONE - FRANKY (Both have a literal arsenal in their bodies)
UROUGE - USOPP (Warrior of the Sky vs Warrior of the Sea/Flight vs Long-range attacks)
HAWKINS - ROBIN (Fate vs History)
BONNEY - NAMI (I got nothin', but who doesn't love a good cat fight?)

Everything is fine except Zoro and Sanji. Zoro and Killer were clearly meant to be the first mate badass fight between badasses. Sanji and Drake are meant to fight because ex-marine.

As for Nami and Bonney, remember she is called JEWELLERY. If that's not a clue than I don't know what is.
>> No. 24131

And when exactly was Sanji an ex-Marine?
>> No. 24135
>>24115
>>24120
I had considered this, but Drake being a swordsman seemed to make him the more obvious choice for Zoro.

>ex-Marine
I've gotta ask exactly where this comes into play with him fighting Sanji. If he was possibly an ex-Marine chef, I could see it. Maybe...
>> No. 24139
>>24135
Killer uses blades too. He's clearly a Zoro analog, a quiet badass 'first mate' who uses swords. X-Drake's swordsmanship pales in comparison to his Ancient Zoan anyway, unless it's planned to be another Kaku fight with a T-Rex. I'm not really seeing all the Supernovas as rivals to specific crew members though...
>> No. 24193
>>24139
I highly doubt the strawhats are ever going to come into contact with every supernova anyways. There are supernovas entering the new world all the time, and some of these guys may have already been taken out of the game.

With the exception of law and kidd, the supernovas will likely just be plot enhancers through the rest of the manga, probably making their final appearance in the final war (we all know there will be one)
>> No. 24194
>>24193
I'd add Bonney and Drake to the list, as they are the two with the largest plot hooks. (Bonney's being why is she apparently so important and Drake's being what made him quit the marines.)
