Keep in mind that it's been said in the SBS that the average lifespan in One Piece land in 140, with super-strong people like Dr. Kureha living even longer. Luffy could still live to be somewhat elderly by our standards.

Yeah but it doesn't actually matter. A meteor could destroy the planet and kill everyone (it goes through the moon) after Luffy dies, but that doesn't mean we need to see it.
>> No. 24859
>>24856

I dunno. It'd be kinda a bittersweet epilogue to see all of the Strawhats around Luffy's grave. Especially if they play the thing totally cheerful and straight beforehand.

Like, we see an elder Ussop, Zorro, Sanji, Nami, Franky, Robin, Chopper (maybe Brook) etc at their homes as they wave goodbye to their friends and family, saying they're going off to see Luffy.

Then they all go to Raftel, meet each other, make some idle talk, maybe have old Sanji comment on how well Nami/Robin have kept their beauty. Then they all just walk out over to Luffy's grave and and give him a moment of silence.

... I think it'd be kind of neat to see.

Again IDK. I just think OP's greatest strength is that it can be happy and kind of sad at the same time. It's by no means a dark, depressing or grim story but it certainly has moments.

Really I guess for me? It's just the feeling that Luffy will have a happy ending if he becomes the Pirate King. As long as he does that? He could be dead the next day and you could never really say he didn't live a full or happy life.

Alternatively, we have another timeskip, where after two generations of abject felons, Garp finally gets the marine successor he's wanted for quite some time via Luffy's kid.

Said grandchild is seen on the smoldering remains of his ship alongside his/her own crew of winded, eccentric officers yelling at a departing pirate besssel that (s)he'll catch him someday. The ship it turns out, has a very familiar Jolly Roger, with Monkey D. Luffy himself perched on its stern giving a hearty wave as he tells his offspring that (s)he should eat more and that his/her mother is fine and isn't on deck to greet him herself because she has a small cold.

One Piece is one of the few series in which I don't care about any of the shippings. Sanji being himself is basically all I care about.

I think it's more "will there ever be a woman who shares his affection".

Which does make me wonder... have we actually seen any like... legit COUPLES in one-piece? As in. Two people, who talk to each other, and are most obviously in love?
>> No. 24891
>>24888
Aside from already married couples like Neptune and Otohime? I think the closest we've got is Usopp and Kaya, which still doesn't quite count as canon.
>> No. 24896
>>24888

Well Margarita (Cindry's shadow) and her master are sort of implied in an extremely obtuse way. First, Cindry says that they were going to get together and she tested his love by breaking his plates, and he dumped her. Then, when she gets her shadow back she breaks a plate and apologizes because she knows that he hates it. Instead of getting angry he tells her he doesn't give a shit anymore and announces a have a party to celebrate her getting her shadow back.

Seems legit to me.

NO SEX IN ONE PIECE!

All children are created through happy FRIENDSHIP magic hand-holding rituals.

Alternativly you have to chase down and have sex with ADVENTURE! itself, it's why all the crew are in love with only it and not other people.

I called Luffy's Red Hawk Fist, and his other vulcanized rubber powers through Busoshoku Haki.
>> No. 24908
>>24902

Vulcanization was proven right through the old "if it doesn't turn out the first time, keep trying for like 4 years" method.

I remember "Luffy will fail to save Ace" and "Whitebeard will die," but I can't recall people saying both at once.

Trafalgar Law is the shichibukai was pretty much a sweep, with only some Buggy supporters and non-serious random guesses in opposition.

Punk Hazard was an old Vegapunk base, and the site of Aokiji vs Akainu (though I don't think anyone guessed both at once).

I think somebody called the ES turning the new fishman pirates into old men, and a lot of Luffy leading Shirahoshi to talk to the sea kings.

Not gonna claim to be the only one to call it, but I nailed his death (and proclamation about the One Piece) triggering another pirate boom. It's probably the only thing I've ever really gotten right in these threads. Not that getting it right is the point, but it is pretty nice.

So anyone think Smoker or Law are gonna have anything new to show off? Hell are we even gonna get to see them throw down? I can't really remember Oda having a fight take place off screen, but I could see this one happening that way.
>> No. 24914
>>24913

Most of the non-SH fights in Sabaody were resolved offscreen. I only remembered because one of them was Pacifista vs Kidd and Law.
>> No. 24938
Pacifistas might actually be a weakness of Law. They can fire lasers at him from outside his room.
>> No. 24964

If he can also modify lasers that enter his "room", then possibly not. He would have to be quick enough though.

Or Usopp, Nami, and Robin.

They can all attach from pretty far away.
>> No. 25035

Robin could even create full duplicates and fight him with that while she stands off at a safe distance, well hidden. That'd be a really neat battle.

Despite how sensible and deeeeeeeelicious a dark skinned Vivi would've been, Oda wanted to avoid the unfortunate implications of her being helped/rescued by a relatively white protagonist from the machinations of a pseudo-European (ie Italian mobster-esque) villain.

I really doubt that, he's Japanese, they don't seem to understand racism of that sort most of the time.
And I'm not just talking about the big-ol' lips they slap on the negro's.
>> No. 25168
>>25160

I'm sure that the only reason Vivi isn't brown is because everyone (but fishmen) is the exact same color in the manga when Oda colors them. Everyone. The same color. When writing, Oda not only doesn't give a shit about real life racial implications, he doesn't even give a shit about the existence of real life races in the first place. People from (but not really) Brazil, Japan, Russia, and Africa have the exact same skin tone.
>> No. 25190
>>25168

I've never really thought or cared about human racial differences in One Piece. Probably because it doesn't matter.
>> No. 25191
>>25168
Oda doesn't really use tones, so different skin colors are kind of difficult to do.
>> No. 25192

say that to the long arm tribe, bro
>> No. 25199

That's pretty common in other manga, too. Even though Araki's characters don't even have set color schemes, he had native americans the same color as caucasians. And Magi's we-all-live-in-the-desert-but-yet-we're-all-pale-as-lilies.

I just assume they pick one copic marker for skin and stuck to it.

The moral of fishman island is that "A monster created by the internet's hatred, lacking any firsthand experience, with absolutely no real substance" is the most hilariously apropos description of tumblr social justice kiddies I have ever heard. "A completely empty enemy" indeed, haha.

Man, I wish I could find that image again.

You're right. Everyone thinks everything is racist and everyone should be a healthy, neutral gray color to avoid this. We don't want another major incident like when all those people protested Oda for being racist and almost shut down the whole series.
>> No. 26025

Considering we had a fiasco where one character in a moderately popular cartoon show was called out for being ableist because she had googly eyes and a slightly slurred speech?

You'd be amazed what fanbases can pull out of their ass so they can feel like they're a special member of the social justice brigade.
>> No. 26027
>>26025

Correction. You had an incident where blah blah whatever.

For the most part, I am happy with the OP fanbase's capacity to purge undesirables. Hell, even if they suddenly invaded in droves it wouldn't affect OP in the slightest because Oda is happily sitting a continent and language barrier away from that nonsense. Yay!
