The Right Choice for Woodbridge candidates condemn the misuse of the heroic image of the U.S. Marine Corps’ raising of the U.S. flag at the battle of Iwo Jima. Walter P. Kaczmarek Jr. of Woodbridge, a U.S. Marine Vietnam hero, emphatically denounces the use of the heroic Iwo Jima picture. He believes that this is not only an insult to the brave men and women who died in World War II, but to all members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have served and continue to serve to protect the U.S. Constitution, our freedom now and for future generations. Not only does Walter have two Purple Heart medals and a Medal for Valor, he still carries the reminder of his heroic battles in Vietnam in the form of shrapnel in his body.
The Right Choice For Woodbridge candidates and Angel Leon, 19th District assemblyman candidate, protest the sacrilegious use of the iconic image of bravery and our U.S. flag. As such, we intend to boycott the India Flag raising ceremony scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Iselin. We call for all elected officials and political candidates in Woodbridge and Middlesex County not to participate in this event.
It is worth noting that the Indian flag-raising ceremony commemorating their independence comes after Sunday’s India Day Parade Iwo Jima fiasco, two weeks after a section of Oak Tree Road in Iselin was dedicated as “India Square” and a cricket (a British and Indian sport) field was dedicated at Kennedy Park. It gives the perception that politicians (Democratic and Republican) are merely pandering to a certain ethnic group for their votes and financial support in the upcoming election.
Organizers of foreign celebrations and events should be aware that New Jersey prohibits the display of any foreign flag unless it is accompanied by a U.S. flag of equal dimensions. There are also protocols that must be adhered to in the raising of a foreign flag, specific to New Jersey
