I don't think you should have included Death Wish in this at all.
The thugs in the original Death Wish just saw a crime of opportunity, Kersey's wife and Daughter were wealthy, attractive and unlike what you indicated the murder of Paul Kersey's wife happens in her own apartment, the thugs even mention they weren't trying to kill Mrs. Kersey, they were just hitting her for the sake of feeling like they were powerful, that's why they were raping Paul's daughter in the first place and what the act of that rape was about. Same deal with 2 after Kersey humiliates a separate group of thugs who attack him, they kill and rape his maid and daughter as an act of power.
One of the most striking things about Death Wish is that he never finds them, the original thugs....They get away, the people who start him down this path he has no way of knowing or killing.
As for the "Heroes" as you say in Death Wish, they really are just that, In all Death Wish movies the various agencies realize their own legal impotency and allow Kersey to operate, in 3 under direct support from the Chief Of Police, who even helps him in the final shoot out.
For the most part Kersey's actions are either ignored or discretely endorsed by law enforcement and the people he saves are quick to come to his defense.
Kersey's growth as a Vigilante can be seen as having reached it's peak in the second movie where he no longer kills in the streets, preferring to tail his targets until they reach seclusion and he does not fuck around.
DeathWish
Ochoa the detective from the first movie even meets his end helping Kersey fight off a mob of drug deal tell him to kill the last man responsible for his Daughter's Death "Get that son off a bitch, go! Oh..oh father lord god thou art in heaven....."
Martial Law only occurs in the third movie, but as a result of a violent street gang trying to take back their territory from the people who've started to strike out against them.
That's the theme of Death Wish, these people can only do this to us as long as we allow them to get away with it, that's why they told the story of the Hat Pin woman defending herself against robbers with a simple hair pin, or really any of the news reports in the series.
So yeah, I think you just meant Law Abiding Citizen.
