Alright, I am probably opening up a can of worms here, but whatever. TGWTG Thread.

Phelous is an absolute riot. I'm surprised I never see him mentioned while folks like Linkara and Spoony get more attention. Every word that comes out of this man's mouth is just dripping with sarcasm and sense of loathing. The horror movies he covers are absolutely without a doubt some of the worst shlock you'll see.

I think I can speak for every hater when I say that I find everything those people do unfunny, boring and downright embarassing to watch.
BUT I realize that different people have different tastes and usually don't mind their stuff being posted, since I am fully aware that I can simply ignore it.

Think we ought to enforce a "No gossiping about the team members' personal lives" rule lest a shitstorm break out.

I've recently become a fan of JesuOtaku's videos. They're always so intelligent, insightful, and fair; she might just be one of my favorite critics period.

I've only ever really watched Cinema Snob, Spoony and Nostalgia Critic. I've tried watching Linkara before but I didn't really get into it because I've just not read a lot of comics to really get where he's coming from. Angry Joe I've not bothered cause he seems like kind of a douche. Bum Reviews I will never watch cause that character is fucking annoying. There was also some other really fat guy I watched a video of but you could tell he had no idea what to really do about a review.

As long as their personal lives and ideologies don't interfere with their products.
Also, I need to watch more stuff from her, Glad that Inked Reality have her, since apart of her there's that guy MasakoX and he's pretty annoying in his poor reviews.

Yeah, I'm glad Spoony gave him that bump because Brad really deserved it.

>Critic
I like him. Sure, he doesn't like Casper or Johnny Depp as Willie Wonka, but that's cool. It's his opinion, which is kind of the point of the show; if I don't agree with it sometimes, I'll just skip the video.

>Chick
Ehhhhhhhhhh... I can understand her desire to not just do 80's girly cartoons, but frnakly they were more fun. Nella's a god-damn riot.

>Spoony & Cinema Snob
Tied for best reviewers on the site.

>Linkara
Honestly, I liked him better when he did plotlines as a joke, but they're mostly skippable so it doens't matter too much. The main trouble he has is that he pretty much did his best review really early on. I mean really early on. Not to say that his stuff isn't usually good, it's just that... he really needs to quit getting mad at The Care Bears and The Kool-Aid Man.

>Marzgurl
I watched that review of Cool World she did with Linkara, as well as that Top 10 she did where she bitched at certain cartoons for explaining the concept of the show. Not my cup of tea.

>Film Brain
He's... good, I guess. Only watched some of his early work, so maybe I haven't got the best handle on him.

>Phelous
I tried to like him, honest I did. Then again, maybe watching the first three minutes of his review of Mac & Me doesn't strictly count as "trying".

>Angry Joe
I watched his Sonic Free Riders review. Pretty damn good, although I'm worried his other reviews will pale in comparison.

>JewWario
I watched one of his videos; nice and original idea, executed well.

>Everyone else
If I did watch one of their videos, it didn't make much of an impression on me.

I recommend the Sage's video game reviews. They aren't for laughs, just really well put together reviews that give a good idea of what you're in for with the game.

Well, if you want to give Phelous another try, I'd recommend watching either Quarantine or Birdemic. I've never seen his Mac and Me review, but I do notice the further I go back in the archives the worse he is, so it might be worth checking out those to see how much he's improved.

Linkara really needs to quit getting mad at pretty munch everything. Yeah, it's understandable that things like early Image and 90's comics can piss him off, but seriously, get over it. And it's frustarting to watch his rants against One More Day(he even dragged Last Angry Geek on a critic/rant about One moment in time). My Favorite linakra review will always be the "Superman at World's Ehd" review, it's the most balanced oen between jokes and review.
You should check the Last Angry Geek reviews, those are really informative and with very few jokes.

>>24152
MarzGurl is ok, but I don't really like her editorials, and specially the ones that are rants against scanlations/fansubs. But outside that, she's a nice fella.

Brain Film is ok, not the best but niether the worst. He's entertaining and informative, althoug I sometimes have problems with hsi accent. Then again, english isn't my first language, so that msut be me.

Angry Joe reviews are hit or miss sometimes, but he's generally good with videogame reviews.

Sage reviews are some the best reviews I've seen around.

JewWairo it's a really interesting project, specially since there are a lot of cool stuff that we'll never get outside Japan.

I reccomend you to check Chad Rocko reviews, that are basically about obscure and characters for any media or very obscure cartoons. He even makes his own cards for hsi videos. Here's his dA page: http://chadrocco.deviantart.com/
Also, Todd in the Shadows hs good music reviews, but most of them are focused on actual pop.

>>24155

>>24157
His Mac and me review it's pretty boring actually, but that maybe could be because it's his first one.

Eh, the critic's stuff isn't really about Nostalgia anymore. More about it being to appease the fans now. As for the persona, can't help but feel Flanderization kicking in.

I generally find amusement or good points from most reviewers of tgwtg. Though, there are some that I just really don't even watch at all, namely Sean what's his face, most of Roses' pc-game ones, most of PAW's suff, and some of the other less watched ones.

That's because she's a critic first and an entertainer second.

And I hope that Bum Review in the Gurren Lagann video wasn't the start of her slide into suck. That's the Kiss of Death for people they bring over from other sites. Spoony started to suck right after he started doing it too (and let his fat GOTIS suffering girlfriend have creative say and full run of his forums).

Todd is good too. Those two are really the only ones I watch. I'll watch the Critic if I'm interested in whatever he's talking about. Haven't watched the Chick since she started doing half assed skits in place of actual reviews, Linkara's regressive republican ass can go fuck himself, and Spoony... yeah.

Angry Joe can go suck a dick too. Oh baww, no one took you seriously at the VGAs. First off, it's the fucking VGAs. Second, you don't go up to someone being antagonistic right off the bat and demanding an interview. Especially since you are, in the grand scheme of game reviewers, a nobody.

>Will agree that the Chick's stuff was a lot stronger before she brought skits into it, though.

I find this to be a common issue with most reviewers. They resort on skits and re-appearing characters to tell the jokes over a situation that's not really needed just to fill in a gap rather than letting the movie be the joke.

Chick has always been kinda meh, IMO.

I watch Todd (pretty good, has some weak moments, but I look forward to his reviews) , JesuO (solid gold 100% of the time) and occasionally TheRapCritic (still finding his groove, but decent enough I guess).

Also known as "The Amazing Atheist/God of the Godless" on youtube, he's pretty munch the atheist equivalent of a religious zealot, with most of his videos being author filibusters of this opinions. He decided to make reviews for the people of TGWTG and he brought that attitude to his first reviews (The Transformers: Rise of the Fallen review is a very good example). But after seeing >>24336 he's toning down at that, and that's a good thing in my opinion.

I go through different waves of entertainment with these folks. I mean, one minute I'll think they're the cat's meow, then the next the cat's litter.

Todd, please, stop with the cameos. I know you don't like doing them. You've said on camera that you don't like doing them because you're a perfectionist. You know who else did them and is now a terrible unwatchable unfunny obnoxious shitstain? Spoony.

Stop it. Please. I don't care if these people are your friends or if it gets you more money somehow. The Nostalgia Critic is, on the whole, pretty decent. He has his moments, both good and bad. I never liked Nostalgia Chick except for anything involving Nella, who is awesome. Cinema Snob is one of the best on the site. Linkara's pretty entertaining most of the time, though since I barely read comics I often find myself uninterested. Spoony's stuff is almost all excellent- his review of Final Fantasy 8 had me in stitches. I just wish he'd quit with the Dr. Insano thing- I've got no problem with characters and plotlines coming into play in these videos, I just think Dr. Insano's voice is incredibly irritating.

I kinda go the other way on that.
Nostalgia critic has always been very hit and miss. Used to be mostly hits. Now it's mostly miss. But when he hits, it's a winning hit.

The chick is usually best when she's monologuing. She gives off good points. But Nella's usally there just to set up a point. From there, I don't really find her funny... at all.

Linkara is usually very good - but uninteresting at times. Felt this even back when I was big on comics.

And Spoony, I just think he's the best one of the lot.

Todd's still on his slow decent into being nothing but pointless cameos and secondary plots in his reviews like nearly everyone else on the site. (He's still good though.) But I will say this: I finally know what the title of "Firework" is. Fucking E! uses it in all of their promos that I have to sit through to watch The Soup and I loathed it with a passion from the moment I first heard it even though I didn't know who the fuck was singing it and what it was called.

If you guys haven't watched Oancitizen's Brows Held High, I highly recommend it—not only are there good jokes about the source material, but he actually analyzes (sometimes straight, sometimes satirically) the material, and he's not afraid to praise elements of an otherwise bad film and even reviews movies he likes. He's also ridiculously well-read, or at least well-researched. If you'd like to test these waters, I recommend starting with his Kenneth Branagh retrospective:

http://blip.tv/brows-held-high/brows-held-high-shakespeare-film-and-kenneth-branagh-a-retrospective-5078006

And his work has been very high quality since the first episode, so there's no weirdness there.

Doug Walker (and his brother Rob), if you watch any of the stuff (or rather, listen since it's mostly just the commentaries) where he's not playing a character like Nostalgia Critic or the Bum, is actually pretty down to earth too. Those two, along with James over at AVGN and Brad Jones, tend to be a lot less psychotically critical of things as opposed to say, Spoony. Doug has recently started to put up normal reviews to go along with the Bum reviews, so it's starting to be a lot more common to just see HIM as opposed to his characters.

Actually it's because he's David Bowie.

God I love Paw. He's so adorable and dorky, I don't even care that he has NO comedic talents.

Mid 20s - late 20s mostly.

But they all have the minds of 12-14 year olds.

Jew Wario is like 37

It's ok, mostly it has funny parts but overall it seems to have kinda over extended itself.

kinda like they were like "LARPing is nerdy right? Let's do that."

Been watching Suburban Knights. Pretty much the only times I've really been amused are when Spoony's group is on screen(which is surprising, I've never really been interested in him), and a few moments with Brad's penchant for screaming. The opening scene with Angry Joe was fucking hilarious though, same for whenever Nostalgia Chick goes all Elvish. I'm not sure what the hell they're doing with the villain though, he's trying way too hard to be serious and just feels out of place.

>he's trying way too hard to be serious and just feels out of place
That could be the joke in and of itself, but then that becomes a problem of unclear delivery.
