Does anyone here like D.Gray-Man? I went into it not expecting very much, but it turned out to be pretty damned good. The characters have really grown on me, but this fucker right here remains my favorite.

Some good ideas.

Balls-out terrible execution; The author can't do visual storytelling for shit.

Kanda is a useless shitstain of a character.

Miranda is mai waifu.

That's about all I have to say on the subject.
>> No. 71303
Stylistically it's aces. Love the art, and some panels are just masterwork.

Meh about pretty much everything else, though.
>> No. 71304
Basically what they said, except switch Kanda and Miranda. Also, the series' quality went way down after the hiatus and subsequent magazine switch.

We have the same opinions of Kanda and Miranda. I am utterly flabbergasted by the former's unwarranted popularity. The latter is very endearing and every smile she flashes is a reward.

The art is amazing.

But you could find a better story on a piece of used toilet paper.
>> No. 71307
I used to like it a lot, but dropped after all the hiatus stuff in the middle of some arc about Kanda and a dead kid. I remember the story not being that great but damn if it didn't look cool as shit.

Powering through that awful arc right now. I can see why you dropped it there. Kanda is a fucking black hole of a character, the worst I've ever had to put up with in a series I otherwise enjoy.
>> No. 71318

Well it wasn't really the reason I dropped it per se, the manga was going through an absolute clusterfuck both in actual publishing and in scanning at the time and I just fell out of the habit of reading it.

As for the arc itself and Kanda, I was just uninterested by it. I could never really work up any particular rage for this series except for when it killed off Cross who was by far the best character except maybe the mad scientist guy, Kamui I think his name was.

I see a lot of hate for the story that I don't really understand. Personally, I like it just fine. Sure, it's not my favorite manga, but it's solid. I actually think it's better as an anime, too. A shame it ended; I wonder why? It's pretty popular, isn't it? Allen made it into a Shonen Jump All-Stars game, at least.
>> No. 71334
I remember him losing his really cool are and getting a sword instead, that was really disappointing.

In exchange, he got a badass, if inexplicable, pierrot costume. Crown Clown is probably the most original shonen power-up I've seen, actually, barring the sword.

Ehh, I might like it if his old power wasn't 200 trillion times cooler.

Can anyone up-to-date on the story explain something to me?

Apocryphos. I don't understand how the living Innocence protecting the Heart can be considered a "third side" to the war when it exists solely to protect the Heart. How does its agenda conflict with the Order's and warrant declaring it a side of its own? It's obviously an enemy from Allen's perspective, but he's just one guy...or two, as it were, but still.

I kind of feel like the art has gotten stylistically blander as the series progressed. Not worse, per se, just a lot less distinct.
>> No. 71358
>>71357
Yeah, looking at the new chapters I was shocked at how everything looked so much less distinct, no surreal curvatures or anything that set it apart originally and between the BEEGSWRDZ and LANGFLAWANCOATS I was pretty sad to see what it looked like after it had been so cool looking at first.

As you may be able to tell, the sword thing bothers me pretty bad, but not half as bad as Kanda still being alive, I figured that bitch woulda been killed off post haste.

Ticky and Rhode popping up again really brought it into contrast to me. They were pretty damn cool-looking in the beginning, but now they just kinda look like everyone else.

If you're comparing moons, the second one doesn't have one.

That's a lamp.

That's a really fucked up way to show light, but it's my mistake, I'll have to go see if I can find a recent drawing of the moon then.

This series doesn't get enough love. How fucking cool is it that the common dead/missing-but-mysterious mentor figure is a gentleman clown? I wish I had Mana Walker in my life. Bro-est of bros.

I have no idea what's going on with the plot anymore.

But I'm rooting for the Noah to win.

It was the anime flavor of the month many moons ago.

Like DRRR and Kuroshitsuji.

Once in awhile, I still see a Lavi cosplayer or two at cons.

Gonna venture a guess that it's because he's a secksi bishie bad boy. Almost all of the people I know who read this POS are teenaged girls in that phase of anime/manga love.

Was this the manga that got accused of various accounts of plagiarism a while back? What happened with those, did they decide they were just coincidental or was there more to it?
>> No. 72120
>>72116
IIRC the claim that held the most water was that some clothing/hair designs in one scene were lifted from Emma, but even then that's a shaky foundation because a. it's entirely possible they just both used the same references for Victorian dress and b. if she did reference Emma, she did it without tracing, which is generally more acceptable.

Unless you're talking about another case?
