Playing Uncharted 3, I can safely say this game has the absolute WORST stealth mechanics in any game ever made ever.

I'm tempted to say that Uncharted is really more of a shooter than anything.

It's definitely not the kind of game where you can "roleplay" and sometimes just going in guns-a-blazin is the best option.

I will however say this as a negative of Uncharted 3. It felt... really anticlimactic in comparison to Uncharted 2.

I mean OK Drake and Sully are reunited, Drake fights some "Dijin" turns out the water's a super drug and the British woman and her assistant (who we never find out why he survived a gunshot wound) and then he and Sully fall into the pool, see the bronze jar that apparently has the Dijin inside of it, we don't find out WHAT'S inside of it and what it's powers could ultimately mean. If it IS a real Djin or just some kind of weird plant or something. He just blows it up.

Then they gun-fight their way out, the woman sinks under a bunch of quicksand with Drake's ring, he knife-fights that guy, shoots him in the head to save Sully then they escape and get out of there as the city sinks into the sands... yaay?

I mean. Say what you will about uncharted 2 but it's final confrontation actually FELT like a climax! You were in a gun-fight against a horrible war-criminal who'd just drank the fountain of youth! This? This just feels like "WE STOPPED THEM FROM OPENING UP THE GEENIE'S BOTTLE, OOP SHE'S DEAD! LETS KILL THIS FUCKER AND GO HOME NOW!"

Kind of disappointing really...

First off, Talbot just wears a compact bulletproof vest.
Second, I actually kind of love that we don't find out what's in the jar. Drake doesn't even want to know anymore. The last time he sated his curiosity for the supernatural instead of just stopping the bad guy, he ended up with a hulking, near invulnerable Russian tank of a man trying to blow his head open with a shotgun. Drake's learned his lesson for once, and that made me so much happier than "WAIT, LET'S SEE WHAT'S REALLY IN THERE," would have.

Companies with assumed licenses (i.e. Capcom of America regarding Capcom of Japan titles) should use Kickstarter for translating niche titles when they're not sure about the sales. Then we could establish very quickly whether or not they'll get the ROI they need, and unlike petitions and letter-writing campaigns, people who said they would buy it would actually be held to it, so they'd be sure they'd get their money if the thing got totally funded.

So I've really had a hankering for a pure hack and slash. Something where I can just run around chopping everything apart, maybe using the odd spell or having light RPG elements, but more often than not I'm stabbing something.

Have you played Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the GC? Multiplayer is a hassle to put together because everyone needs to have a GBA (well worth it though), but it's perfectly fun single player. RPG elements are light, and the world is pretty. Four available races, and if you go Lility than you can pretty much just tank through everything.

Or maybe the two Champions of Norrath games for ps2?

Bastion
Braid
Deus Ex
FEAR 1 and 2
Fallout 3
New Vegas
GTA IV + Episodes
Hitman: Blood Money
Monkey Island 1 and 2
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
Rock of Ages
STALKER
Serious Sam HD 1 and 2
Terraria
Splinter Cell + Chaos Theory
Trine
Vampire: Masquerade
VVVVVV
Worms Reloaded
Zeno Clash

As well as a bunch of unplayed Wii/PS2 games.

All of which are supposed to be good, and I own all of them, yet I have never played them. Not even tried. Instead I keep going back to online games like TF2. It's not because I don't have time either, in fact I have so much free time it drives me insane. It may be because I'm too lazy to wait for them to install/update for hours eating up my bandwidth, or because it's an RPG and I'll eventually use a walkthrough, or because I'm afraid everyone will say it's good yet I'm disappointed by it.

At first I thought I was just burned out and needed a month or two to slow down. But this has been going on for at least a year.

So I've been playing Sonic Generations recently.

My consensus:

Level 1: HEY! I remember this level!
Level 2: HE HEE. Purple water making him nervous. It's funny cause that's how I felt at chemical plant too.
Level 3: AWW YEA!

Metal Sonic Boss: TITS

First Boss: SHIT DAWG

Level 4: Oh hey I remember this level from this game!
Level 5: ... another city level... OH WELL I guess these were the most memorable from each.
Level 6: Oh hey. I kind of remember that level from heroes... I guess. Probably says more about Sonic heroes than anything.

Shadow Boss: Well it's better than the fight in the actual game. Nice improvement new sonic team!

Second Boss fight: AHHH MEMORIES

Level Seven: All of my :| I can't tell if them making the worst level in the game thus far off based off the worst console Sonic game was them just trying to get past that part (cause they HAD TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT) or if it was some work of mad genius going on behind the screens.

Overall thus far though? I give it a solid B+

Not amazing, but not horrendously broken like a lot of mid 2000 Sonic games.

The game still looses points for having lives. Yea yea call it a pet peeve but... fuckit I just don't like lives. Also why isn't there a Sonic CD level? I want a Sonic CD level ;_;

>Sony president Kazuo Hirai, who took over the role recently, has admitted that the company has tough times ahead, thanks to "one issue after another."

>Hirai was named the new Sony president and CEO earlier this week, having taken over the role from former president Sir Howard Stringer. He was instrumental in the early marketing success of Sony's then-new PlayStation video game brand in the mid-1990s.

>However, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Hirai said, "I thought turning around the PlayStation business was going to be the toughest challenge of my career, but I guess not. It's one issue after another. I feel like 'Holy shit, now what?'"

>With Sony's stock at a low, plus third quarter declines in revenue and a swing to losses year-over-year, Hirai also noted that he needs to make some tough decisions about the future of the company.

>"We really need to buckle down and be realistic," he explained. "I don't think everybody [working at the company] is on board, but I think people are coming around to the idea that if we don't turn this around, we could be sitting in some serious trouble."

>He added, "We can't just continue to be a great purveyor of hardware products, even though some people expect us to do that."

Xbox 360 is number one again; Bill Gates smiles from above (his mansion):

http://www.geekwire.com/2012/xbox-360-tops-wii-ps3-1st-time-yearly-global-sales#utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+geekwire
+%28GeekWire%29

>Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has been dominating its home turf for the past couple of years, sitting atop the monthly sales charts for the U.S. video-game console market, but the Redmond company has just taken the title of top-selling home console worldwide, as well.

>Sony’s earnings report, issued yesterday, puts the PlayStation 3 at 6.5 million units sold worldwide for the holiday quarter, topping the 5.6 million units registered by Nintendo’s Wii for the same period — but falling short of the 8.2 million Xbox 360 sales reported by Microsoft.

>According to data compiled by GeekWire, it’s the first time that the Xbox 360 has led worldwide holiday sales since 2006, when the PlayStation 3 and Wii were just being launched, posting a partial quarter and not yet ramping up their manufacturing to meet demand.

>Here’s the bigger news: The Xbox 360′s strong holiday quarter also put the Microsoft console ahead in worldwide sales globally for the full year of 2011, with 14.9 million units sold, compared with 14.1 million for the PS3 and 10.33 million for the Wii.

>According to our data, compiled from historical earnings reports, it’s first time the Xbox 360 has topped the worldwide console market for a full year of head-to-head competition with the PS3 and Wii.

>Microsoft’s surge reflects the strong reception for the Kinect motion sensor and the expansion of the console as a home entertainment device, enabled by regular software updates.

>Don Mattrick, the Microsoft video-game chief, had predicted last year at the E3 conference that Xbox 360 would become the No. 1 console globally.

>On a cumulative basis, Nintendo is still the king of the current console generation, with 95 million Wiis sold worldwide, compared with 66 million Xbox 360 for Microsoft and 62 million Ps3s for Sony.

I don't think there's any way to quantify that, even if they were so inclined. Remember, financial analysts aren't video game geeks, a unit sold is a unit sold. Besides, I thought the RROD issues had been mostly solved?

Additionally, this:
>On a cumulative basis, Nintendo is still the king of the current console generation, with 95 million Wiis sold worldwide, compared with 66 million Xbox 360 for Microsoft and 62 million Ps3s for Sony.
This is a fuckload of consoles. I don't think any console generation has had this level of saturation (the previous generation, even when throwing in the Dreamcast and PS2 sales up to the present day, was 20 million consoles short), especially not one that's still ongoing. Another remarkable thing is the comparative diversity of the market. No one console has ran away to dominate the generation, a state of affairs which hasn't been seen since the SNES/Megadrive days.

By all accounts, we should be living in a golden era of innovation and popularity. So why doesn't it feel that way?

Because we're cynical bastards who believe the grass is always greener and rarely find satisfaction in things we have?

Although, I don't see the correlation between sales and innovation. At a glance, it seems general society gets gradually more receptive to games as time goes on, if only because more and more adults grew up with the things.
>> No. 146107
>>146105
It's not the sales, chiefly, but rather the competition that I thought might foster creativity. The early '90s saw an explosion of unique and peculiar content as the two major consoles tried their utmost to undermine each other (the PSX wasn't a sure thing in its generation, so I feel there was a lot of overlap as developers tried to get to grips with CDs and three dimensions in games). Generations with a runaway leader, like the Atari, NES and PS2 days, tended to sit on their haunches and let third-party developers (or in NES's case, the toy department) shovel as much nonsense as they pleased, which barring indie developers feels a lot more like the current generation. I think maybe because almost all games nowadays are multi-platform, and cost shit-tons of time and cash to develop, there isn't the atmosphere of intense competition there was back then.

Or maybe it's because the pinnacle of human sophistication and culture was when I was twelve, I dunno. Maybe I am a cynical old curmudgeon.

Playing God of War: Origins.

Chains of Olympus wasn't all that great. The ending seemed rushed, there were many glitches here and there, it felt more repetitive than usual, and overall it just wasn't as good as the console games. But hey, it's the first Handheld title. I can understand if they were just getting used to the hardware and format. And it was still good for what it's worth.

It's just...Persephone, of all people, is the final boss? Really? What about Morpheus? Isn't he supposed to be the main threat? Do we ever SEE Helios? No. And why the fuck is Kratos responsible for Atlas's fate? In all incarnations of Greek mythology, isn't Zeus the one who does that?

Is Ghost of Sparta supposed to be better? It takes place between GoW 1 and 2, so I'm actually going to be the God of War, which should be interesting.

The Polish developers of CD Projekt RED are not people to take lightly. They took the difficulty of the first game and decided to first make a difficulty setting that will delete your save after one death and then a "dark mode" that makes essentially all enemies the equivalent of a boss in terms of challenge for the reward of dark items that are otherwise cursed unless you collect and wear the complete set of items from special sword to armor pieces.

They are the second coming of brutal NES programmers. But The Witcher series is almost endearing in learning to adapt to its difficulty and then plow the game like a whoreson.

Witcher 1 wasn't actually that hard, since you had the Group Style and almost every sign you had affected an area instead of a single enemy. Witcher 2 you need everything at your disposal to deal with any group larger than 3. And even then you can get unlucky and get crowded and that's pretty much insta-death. And it really tends to throw ridiculous amounts of enemies at you at once (that fucking Nekker cave).

I get that, but will it recognize cumulative donations when it considers which rewards I can get.

Although that doesn't matter anymore, because as you pointed out it will be charged at the deadline or not at all, so I just pledge $15 right away.

Unless this just a mimic, he already has.

Also
>already at 76% funding
>donation started less than 7 hours ago

This really got some momentum.

So Letho wasn't actually that hard. Since it was 1-on-1 you could just use Yrden all the way through and not get hit once. And it turns out I can actually play it on High Spec, if I use a frame limiter to stop the FPS from jumping all over the place. SO PRETTY!

I like the Darkness 2 and I think the reason why other people are having trouble doing so is that this game ceaselessly shifts between comedy and FPS visceral horror.

I'm guessing it's mostly because the PC version is a terrible joke of a port.
