Sort of, I didn't get a good look at the big thing but I expected RE's style at this point to involve lithe, insect/plant like zombies instead of this huge fat ball of puss. Even the giants in 4 were a slightly realisitic mountain of muscle mass then anything else.

This however doesn't really fit with the usual monsters we've seen in these games to me.

See, now I liked that twist on the story. It's something that I could see happening in a non-apocalypse zombie outbreak.

I don't care about valve being uncreative with something as beaten to death as zombies; I was just hoping there was some slightly unique take from the franchise that gave us everything from zombie animals to mutant worms. Giant fat guy in 6 is disappointing to say the least. I’ll take it back if they do something to spice him up like if he dies he reanimates corpses or you get stuck to his body oil and he swallows you in like clay face but visually its boring.

I do like the "fuck your cover" tenticle arm dude. I like morw dynamic enimes like that to show up.

Survival horror? Where? I saw sliding under zombies and karate kicks and taking cover from enemy fire. Game looks fast paced as hell
>> No. 144958
Personally I don't mind RE going all-out action. Mostly cause GOOD horror (at least to me) is about mystery and oppression.

Silent Hill gets that right. Silent Hill is about a mysterious city where the psychological manifestations of a person's inner turmoil try to kill him. Silent Hill games revolve around a mystery, they revolve around somebody (or some people) having big skeletons in their closet and those skeletons coming in to kill them.

Resident Evil? Never really had that... at least not for long anyway. We know that Umbrella are corrupt and stupid and are constantly the cause of zombie outbreaks via a virus. We know that there's generally an enemy at the end of all this that we need to kill. There's really no "horror" in it at all outside of the threat of impending death, and once you nut up and accept that then it basically IS an action experience more than any real horror experience.

Resident Evil's always erred on the side of campy and balls-to-the-wall crazy rather than actually drawing you into an atmosphere and letting the horror of reality sink in on you.

>> No. 144964
>>144958
I like to think of it more in the sense that RE's premise is survival more then horror. Even if that means you are killing the source of this terrible disease and slaughtering the undead that others couldn't stop all by yourself sustain your endless fury with bizarre herbal knowledge and a handful of bullets. It's both campy and feeding the lizard brain side of you that only thinks in GET KEY, EAT PLANTS, KILL SHIT.

Yes, but a lot of that feeling of powerlessness comes from having a character that controls like a particularly slow forklift.

In my opinion, Resident Evil 4 was hands down the best RE game.
People will bitch about how it "killed" Resident Evil by doing things differently and bluh bluh bluh, but quite frankly, the earlier RE games were pretty awful in most regards. It had it's problems, but they were much fewer than the previous titles.

Resident Evil 5 was ok, but they actually did take the ACTION FUCK YEAH element waaaaaaay too far with that one, both gameplay wise and story wise.

But, from the looks of it RE6 is going to attempt to combine the elements of these games to make something all audiences will enjoy. From the trailer the Leon segments look like they're going old school RE survival horror with the small town location/traditional zombies and a generally eerie vibe. Whereas the Chris storyline will likely be all testosterone, cover shooting and boulder punching with head bursting zombie monsters.
And I imagine the Ashley/Bald guy storyline will be for whoever the fuck actually liked the forced co-op aspect of RE5

All I can say is that the prospect of playing as Leon again and even slightly more survival horror based gameplay, not to mention the inevitable Chris/Leon buddy cop team up is enough for me at this point.

This is actually hilarious and awesome.
Me and my room mate, after playing RE5 were basically like "So how much you wanna bet that the next game is going to take place in japan or something? I mean, they've killed off all the Spanish and Africans, all that's left is the Asians." And we were also going on about how Sheva is a pretty lame sidekick and Chris is too much of a douchey cheeseball to be the protagonist. So we decide that the next game would need to star Leon and Chris because they'd have a great character dynamic.

But anywho, I'm actually pretty stoked for this. The new gameplay elements look pretty cool, and Leon is back, and looks kind of like Kurt Russel.
The fact that Ashley is back and in an action role is fucking hilarious, now all we need is the return of the merchant and the inventory management.
>> No. 144981
>>144974
Believe it or not, that was actually done on purpose to keep players on edge whenever something sudden happened. Lots of horror games limit movement or capability to drive home the fact that you have less control over your situation in the game than you have in your own life.

It's one of those MvC2 paradoxes, where bad design makes games better.

>>144975
>In my opinion, Resident Evil 4 was hands down the best RE game.
Woah, slow down there, Tex. First, let's get something straight. There's this thing that's been happening for the past 7 or so years where game companies make "sequels in name only" to give unique new ideas legs without the risk of making a new IP, which ends up splintering their fanbases in the process. It's the same thing that happened to Final Fantasy, Fallout, Banjo-Kazooie, Warcraft, Marvel vs. Capcom, Deus Ex, Street Fighter, X-COM, Civilization, and oh-so-many other series. In most cases, these games really are good. But rather than call them better, I prefer to call them "different". Sure, I loved Fallout 3, but comparing it to any other Fallout game is like comparing apples to durians. And that's exactly why fans get mad over games like RE4. I mean, you spend a huge chunk of the decade playing "Red 2", getting attached to the game, learning of its intricacies and flaws, and then, after years of begging and praying for a sequel to "Red", with more shades and even more vibrant colors, "Red 3" comes out, and the game is fucking "Purple". Blech. Purple may be good and entertaining, but it isn't Red.

As an added twist, I too prefer RE4, even though I'll admit it isn't as scary as RE 1-3 and Outbreak.

>And I imagine the Ashley/Bald guy storyline will be for whoever the fuck actually liked the forced co-op aspect of RE5

It looks to me more like an RE2's Claire Redfield Substitute (Ashley?) + RE3's invincible Miniboss + RE4's Useless sidekick.

Also, all three sections seem to have co-op, according to the trailer. Leon is with Agent Scully and Chris is with the Scout from TF2.

How? It literally was a rehash of 4 in so many ways. From the QTEs, to the poor rural setting with minorities, to some of the animations, to buying weapons instead of just finding them, etc.

Story wise it made a 100X more sense than 4 which had ONE DUDE trying to save the PRESIDENT'S daughter from a TERRORIST CULT with prehistoric parasites in their heads. Also Napoleon

The proliferation of BOWs and Viruses was an actual logical place to move the story considering the shut down of Umbrella (Something only really addressed in those Wii lightgun games)
>> No. 145017
>>145014
The problem their being that it was largely a rehash of 4. Both were ACTION MOVIE AS FUCK, but 4 did a much better job if maintaining a more disturbing atmosphere. You're one man, in a foreign land, hounded by a terrorist cult weilding a monstrous prehistoric parasite, led by three eccentric sociopaths who want you dead. 5 did a lot of similar things but also had PRESS X TO PUNCH A FUCKING BOULDER and put a greater emphasis on the action. 4 was a B horror movie, 5 was full on action horror ala-Devil May Cry.

...I...

...don't you people NOT play the light gun games or other capcom-made survival horror games??

The over-the-shoulder style viewpoint came from RE:Dead Aim. While Aiming, though is when it stunk to hell since it's like playing a light gun shooter...without the light gun. Trust me, aiming was slow there. And the aiming reticle was cheesy as fuck.

The run and gun pace of fighting and the point system came from Dino Crisis 2. Also, there was the proto-type of the services the merchant offered came from later...though in the form of a console, which was not as interesting as hearing "What are you buying?" from the merchant...

So yeah, I'm mystified why they think Capcom stole concepts from other companies' games when they were already developing them themselves.

Although I must admit, it sure as hell looks like they did anyhow....

That looked pretty fucking cool, and I am down with 2-8 player online co-op. I really hope it gets a PC version.

Also, ya'll need to get over the boulder punching. It was really nowhere near as ridiculous as you people keep saying it is. I know I was really disappointed when it came around, and you all built it up to be this huge, over-the fucking top, balls-fucking-crazy thing. I remember playing through with Toxie, and not knowing when it would happen, but would get excited every time it looked like it might happen. Like an awful, never-ending, cock-tease. I was expecting for Chris to get infected with the same thing Wesker and Jill were on, to allow him to do such an amazing feat. And then it happens.

He was just trying to push the boulder. The punching was more him being desperate and frustrated than anything. It wasn't that over-the-top.

Anyhow, I liked RE5 better than 4 for the simple fact that I liked Christ better, and the controls were actually playable. I don't care if the controls were bad "on purpose" in RE4, bad controls are still bad controls.

But anyway, I am down with RE6.

WHAT
Resident Evil 5 - Chris Redfield vs. Boulderyoutube thumb
Seriously, look at the last two strikes that actually knock the boulder in. Chris DOES punch the boulder several feet before the final push.
I mean, I'm not deriding the boulder push, it's one of my favorite stupid Resident Evil moments ever.

There is this thing called momentum where when you get something moving it continues to move without you.

He shoved it until it already began rolling downhill, regardless of him punching it those two extra times the result would have been the same.

I'd totally buy Dead rising DLC that let you play the games as characters from Resident evil...or a game that just had all the characters from Capcom's zombie games put together in one thing, where you run about killing zombies and all sorts of B.O.W's.

I mean its not like people play it for the plot even if they like the characters, because Capcom are bad at writing plots.
Haha how many outbreaks are they going to have in canon with the neverending sequals before it becomes a zombie-apocalypse.

The Fuck did RE ever have anime overtones?

Well, I am talking about RE4. From what I remember, it was all the pretty boy/anime-ish faces. Sharp chins and such.
Its much more manly now. I just used the wrong words to express what I was triyng to say.

No, don't open that can of worms with or without your poor grasp of the english language.
Though yes Leon is prettyboy who is secrety homosexual, thats why he tries to be a player in such an overactive and on the surface poorly-written fashion, he's overcompensating. Its so deep once you realize this fact. (honestly now though the 'romance' between him and femme-fatale Ada is one of worst written parts of the series, and thats saying something for RE)

So hey is it certain the generic scarred merc in the trailer is HUNK or is it just the fans jumping to conclusions?

It's a B-movie. The closest you get to anime-ish design would be Marcus, the dress-wearing, long-haired mass of leechespretty boy villain from RE0. And Leon is still BISHOUNEN AS FUCK, he just has stubble.

RE2 Leon was pretty much an 80s New Wave idol.

4 was terrifying for like a grand total of 10 minutes. Once you got past the initial shock of the chainsaw guy and the bad guys swarming you, it became very routine due to how weak the regular enemies were. 5
failed in the part that it was supposed to make the Majini more of a threat, they were depicted as more intelligent with the using of firearms and riding on motorcycles and whatnot but they still were just ho hum baddies. Granted 5 was harder than 4 due to less inventory space but it was still pretty much like shooting fish in a barrel.

Yeah it was stupid but not as dumb as literally just punching that shit like Fist of the North Star. Though RE5's cinema direction was far more professional then the nonsensical RE4 which was schizo in it's handling of automated statues of weird gremlins chasing you and calling people small time vs. death of comrades no matter how insignificant their role was.

Funny you say that, since some of the producers think it's a highlight of the series.

>Several Feet

He, after much pushing (Because in game, it never worked that fast), yeah, a punch does help loosen it, but he was putting his whole body into that mother fucking boulder. It was no where NEAR as over-the-top as you people on /cog/ kept saying how ridiculous it was. And it wasn't nearly half as ridiculous as most of the things happening in the game, or even that fight. I don't know if you in particular, Morbi, were pointing out how boulder punching somehow made this game worse (which still makes no sense to me at all) than RE4, but all I know if that I was fucking prepared for bad ass boulder punching and breaking action and was fucking denied. Like a stripper that keeps brushing her crotch against yours, telling you anything goes in the VIP room, so long as the money's right, and then going "lol nope" when you proposition her there, and she gets you kicked out of the club and almost arrested. You people promised me so much in this game, and I was delivered so little in the way of over-the-fucking-goddamn-circus-orgy-top BOULDER PUNCHING.

Also, all you people that love RE4 so much, get over yourselves, please. You are more than welcome to like it better over RE5, that's not an issue. I don't get it, but it's fair. Just don't exaggerate the awesome sweet nectar ambrosia that is boulder punching like that, because you got me so excited, and then the game never delivered in a say you said it did. I mean, it was still better than RE4, in my humble opinion. I personally preferred the controls and I like Chris more than Leon, but that's just me.

What are we talking about? Oh right, Resident Evil 6 looks like it will be really fun.

Vorked, RE4, despite having a pretty-boy antagonist, wasn't really anime-ish. You're wrong about that one.
