UMvC3 is almost on auto-sage, starting up a new thread.

I have some spare change and want to get one of the DLC characters. Tel me /cog/, who's more to fun to play; Shuma or Jill?

And for that guy struggling with SSF4 in the last thread here's a neat trick: When doing simple links (think crouching punch to standing kick) close your eyes and listen for the sounds. If you hear nothing come out after your punch you're doing the inputs too quickly, if you hear a blocked hit you're doing the inputs too slowly. You'll eventually get the timing down perfectly.

FINALLY! I was tired of all the game spesific ones.
So here let me talk about is the deal behind Smash Bros!

You see hater/dudes who dont get Smash's deal, back in the day of the N64 we Nintendo "loyalists" LOVED four player games.
Diddi kong raceing, goldeneye, the pokémon stadium minigame, a-fuck-ton of games with Mario in the title.
But there were no four player fighter. (that we knew off or in real time of you count stadium)
Then BAM! Smash Bros hit like a hammer to the face with all of its controlled chaos crossover madness we did not even know we always wanted.
And lets not for get that Nintendo "loyalist" always where sucker for nostilga...
But lets face it, Smash bros. is more of a VS platformer then a "real" fighting. That did not stop us from loving it doh.
So yeah that the secret behind Smash Bros. Nintendo fanboys really really love 4 player games. Or thats how I see it.
And then it fans grow up into horid mutants who hate fun and thinks its a tournamet tire fighter. Poor souls...

So... got any fun house rules? (other then the retarded fox only ect. bullshit.)
Mine is POKÉBALL MADNESS! Where the only item is pokéballs(duh) and set on very high drop rate. Lets the ball throwing chaos begin!


Also I want more fighters to come out on the 3DS with tap lower screen for super moves controll. So that we "scrubs" get our own playgrund to play in(and on the go no less) and all you hardcore can have your arcade sticks and HDTVs for yourself. Alright?

They announced there would be a new Smash for the WiiU and the producer of the series stated he wanted a counterpart on the 3DS too.
It was also stated that they weren't in development or production yet as his studio is still working on Kid Icarus.

As a MtG player, I'm all for metagaming and a little customization, especially the give-and take method of balance they're using for the gems. The selection time for a tournament setting, even though I don't do them, is pretty problematic though, especially if you have that many to pick from and you want to encourage their use at said tournaments.

SSF4:AE made it more unbalanced again.
SSF4:AE 2012 is looking to bring even more variety than SSF4 did.

I just bought Jill and Shuma, my initial thoughts:

Remember that BS Seth fed us that they nerfed Jill because "she's got a lot of hidden tech, it's just that no one has found it yet? I'm starting to see what he means. Hitting down twice then launcher will put you in feral crouch, a move that allows you to zip along the screen with invincibility like Wolverine's berserker slash. It even automatically goes into feral crouch after some of Jill's moves! This means that Jill can do a nice combo on a character and end with feral crouch and, instead of continuing from that point, use feral crouch to quickly zip in front/behind/near the opponent for some particularly nasty resets. A favorite of mine is locking the opponent down in the corner, calling an assist, then zipping behind them and forcing them to make a 50/50 guess on where the next attack is coming from. Jill is actually a reset character/mixup to the extreme.

Her three specials are machine gun spray, raven spike, and mad beast. Machine gun spray hits OTG and has Jill spinning around and hitting everything on the screen and destroying all object projectiles on the screen (hidden missiles, sentinel drones, modok bombs, etc.), but it does little damage. Machine gun spray is more of a "get out of jail free" special instead of a pure damage special, with you DHCing out of machine gun spray into another character. Her other special is Raven Spike, which does more damage and also allows you to DHC. If you're looking for pure damage Lv1 hyper, this is the one to choose, it also has a surprisingly large hitbox.

Mad Beast, Jill's level 3 Hyper, is like Feral Crouch but constantly on. Jill is able to do mad beast dashes along the ground all she wants and is allowed three in the air. She cannot block during this mode and her damage output is not increased by Mad Beast. There are a lot of neat things you can do for what first appears to be a gimmicky level 3, which I've put at the end. Unfortunately Jill's is bogged down by low health, high execution standards, some little damaging specials, and low damage output on her own. Someone like, say, Wolverine or X-23 can simply do what she can without the dedication Jill would require (a berserker slash with an assist call is infinitely easier than an attack canceled by feral beast with assist call, and lets not get started on how brain dead easy Wolverine's combos are in comparison to Jill's). In addition Jill desperately needs assists to get in. She has weak anti-air options and air combat in general is sorta meh, so an assist that can help cover her like a Doom's hidden missiles or Sentinel's drones is a godsend. In fact you may not want to go in the air at all, as feral crouch can go through beams due to invincibility frames. Another good assist choice for her is something that OTGs, I prefer using Wesker's samurai edge OTG assist.

>tl;dr: Jill is a point character with large execution requirements and immense mix-up and reset options. She's very hard to crack open, but once you do you'll realize she's one of the funniest to play in all of UMvC3.

I left for my parents house the day it came out so I won't be able to hit that shit up until the 31st when I get back.
The card selection didn't impress me much though. Nothing too crazy, just a lot of "Increase movement speed, increase damage" type of bland shit.
Also the fact that it doesn't have local player vs. player options is pretty shit-tier.
I'll still give it a shot though even though it's disappointed me on most of what it was promising to deliver. But hey, it's free anyway so I guess it gets a pass.

There's loads of crazy shit. Some examples I've encountered:

There's stat-tweaking stuff too, but it's all pretty varied. I'm having a blast just experimenting with different combinations and gathering new cards.

I think when Seth said things where going to be absolutely nuts with this mode, I was expecting way more than I should have realized they'd give us. And the Gene card is pretty disappointing and vanilla for all the cool things it could have been.

I guess I'll just have to wait to try it out though as it seems to be getting good press.

Tron carcass in alley this morning, Sentinel footprint on burst stomach. This game is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are confusingly arranged lifebars and the lifebars are full of X-Factor and when the X-Factors finally run out, all the scrubs will drown. The accumulated filth of all their button mashing and quarter circles will foam up about their waists and all the stream lurkers and tournament players will look up and shout "When will you stop being gdlk, Wesker!?"

Fou-Lou doesn't really add anything to your first deck other than an extra X-Factor. Also, it might be tricky to get 5 bars every time a Dark Phoenix dies. Could use some tweaking, but it has potential.

Replace Sabretooth with Daken to take away your opponents' red life with every attack (the amount of healing you get is the same). You won't have Sabretooths speed bonus, but you don't really need it anyway if you're going to play with this deck.

The extra X-factors helps keep my Dark Phoenix's around longer and thus build more meter as her health starts to drain as soon as she hits dark mode.
Also one Dark Phoenix in X-factor is hard enough, let alone more.

Hey for Soul Calibur 5, did they ever say how many characters they where going to have at launch, have they released any official Raphael gameplay, and have they said anything more on Create a Soul such as if there are any unlockables (and how to get them) or if there's going to be a separate mode like in 3?
I'm on the fence with this one considering how terrible the 4th was and the news that 4s 'big bad' soul calibur/ edge wielding douchefag is playable in the game has me even more uneasy. Because he was a terrible character (in my opinion) in so so many different ways.

I sort of agree with this, but Street Fighter 2 Super Turbo isn't really a game that's played anymore by beginners. The only people you're gonna meet online are powerhouses who've been playing it for years.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition works as a starting point just as well, IMO. There's a few more mechanics (like focus attacks) but you don't really need to bother with them until you reach a higher level of play.

Also, I've already unlocked Devil Jin Style. I got that at like... Level 5.
Incidentally, even with only a few parts, the things you can do with it are REALLY impressive. This will easily be the new gold standard for creation in my books.

Nightmare is now in the body of some random guy instead of just being a literal extension the sword made to wield it like in the last two games.

Yeah, it felt like the first two acts of a story without the third. Kinda disappointed in that along with character-specific arcade endings. Talim's absence is also kinda bothersome, since she doesn't share a fighting style with any other character. Still, I like how the underlying theme of Soul Calibur being even more of an asshole than Soul Edge actually drifted into the story this time, and really can't argue with the much-improved character creation and excellent online support. Mitsurugi still has one alternate stance, and Siegfried has about 4 it seems like. It's a lot easier to switch between them now though.

You earn weapons and creation mode parts by leveling up you're player profile by playing the game.
If you play through the story mode and each characters campaign you'll be at least level 35 by the end of it all.

Also no you don't have all the equipment (weapons, characters, or creation parts) from the start, as stated, you have to 'level up' to unlock them. But don't worry, it's not incredibly tough to do. You can easily manage around 95+ points a match in arcade, quick play, and story modes.

I don't, personally. If your opponent keeps spamming the same move, then all you need to do is figure out a way for your team to punish that move, preferably followed by an extremely damaging combo.

Metagames and tier lists are not set in stone. Look at MvC2. In the beginning Cable was considered the best character by a long shot. 10 years later he was barely ever used because all the top players had learned how to counter all his moves. UMvC3 has been out for a few months. In a few years everyone and their mum will know how to counter Wesker.

Nah, I like single player modes. I enjoy playing against the computer because even on hard I feel like it's a fair run.
And when a game does single player right, it's a rich experience. Like with Blazblue.
The main draw that's kept me going back to SC has been the creation mode, because I am honestly a total whore for customization.

So I hit level 79 in SC5 today... and past level 55 or so there isn't anything you unlock in the weapon or wardrobe category.
A few stickers and some picture frames/ backgrounds. That's about it.

The final 'vanilla' selection for items in the character creator is pretty damn lacking when paired up against SC4 and even 3. I was expecting a LOT more variety.

Also for the joke weapons: A surprisingly large amount of them are food/ nautically themed.

Over all, pretty disappointed with the lack of character customization parts. It's a damn shame that I had more choice in a game 10 years old or than one that's not even a month old.
On the other hand, the on-line is obscenely good even if finding an opponent can take a few minutes.

Aside from pasterns, stickers, and the option to include and place up to three extra items on the character, 5 took a pretty big step back in what it had to offer as a base.

I make it a point to play through arcade mode with everyone in a fighter at least once. That was I can check it off my 'to-do' list and see which character works best for me. (It took for fucking EVER in UMvC3)

In SCV, I've gone back to Cervantes as he plays a lot like he did back in 2.
I've also found synergy with Natsu and Aeon. I haven't played in about a week or so, but for some reason I can't get wins with the above two often enough, so then I bring out Aeon and clean house when I hardly know his combos. It makes no sense.

Also I feel that I'm doing it wrong because I'm treating 5 like any other Soul Calibur game in that I try and play a lot of footsies with high/ low mixups. Seems a LOT more combo centric now.

Honestly, Peacock is looking to be one of those characters that I can't help but absolutely adorable in everyway. And in the vain of what that one post mentions, I can see this character in no sexual way whatsoever. Kinda like Yotsuba among a few.

Also looking over that character sheet, this game looks amazing. I'd buy it under the premise of its animation choice alone, but with all this extra mileage they take it, there's no way to say no!
