No. 130210
I think I will do what I've always been doing. I'll buy the games I'm interested in, and then not worry about which company I'm buying it from. By the same token, i won't go out of my way to buy all the titles that a publisher puts out.
Just because i'm interested in Asura's wrath, doesn't mean i'll ever pick up a Devil May Cry Game (Tried it once, never again), or whatever other mediocre title they put out.
Like, I used to be a really big Megman fan, but I'm not really that upset over Legends 3 being cancelled. Really, I was more surprised that it was even announced.
Clover studios being closed down sucked, but they weren't the end all, be all, of games at the company. I mean, they DID make all those really bad sequels to Viewtiful Joe. In my honest opinion, only the first game was really good, and thought I loved the art direction throughout the series, the other ones were kind of crap. Besides, I'm fairly certain (though not 100%) that the people who made up Clover were absorbed into Capcom proper ANYWAY, so it's still sort of around in spirit.
Does that make all the bullshit Capcom pulls on a regular basis any less wrong and awful? Not at all, but by the same token, why was anyone surprised? Why to we still keep getting surprised when any of these companies pull shit like this? It's like getting mad every time EA does something retarded. It's the nature of these companies to do these things.
You can boycott Capcom all you want, and you can get everyone who is upset over Clover being Shut Down, the endless DLC, Endless versions of the same game, and MML3 being cancelled to boycott them too, but you know what? They will still turn a profit. Why? Because the hardcore fans such as yourselves, who really loved these series, who play them again and again, and still walk away with something new? You aren't their main target demographic.
True, they do like to make shout-outs to you, and do a little something nice for you every once and a while, but they are more concerned with the public at large and bringing in new customers than the small core of it's usual consumers. At the end of the day, Megaman Legends 3 isn't going to bring in the profit that Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3/More DLC would bring in. The amount of people who actually wanted that game/would purchase that game is actually kind of... Well, small. Besides, they know they have you for life anyway. I know you're saying you will never buy from Capcom again now, but come on. We both that's not true anyway. Sooner or later, something is going to come along to make you buy from them again. Maybe it'll be a new quirky, witty, original, title that you didn't expect and steals your heart. More likely, it'll be a long awaited (or maybe not so long awaited) sequel to a series you love and doesn't get cancelled. No matter what it is, you will buy again. I don't mean that in a cynical "Shame on you" sort of way, but that's how it usually goes. If you somehow resist the urge to buy that title that you really want to play, good for you, but the majority of the people who boycott will return to them soon. Why? Because you guys are their core consumers, otherwise you wouldn't have bought their games all the goddamn time for years and years.
In the end, you also need to understand that their are many different parts of Capcom, and the part that made game X isn't responsible for game Y not getting released. It falls to the management to decide things and figure out whether or not they'll turn a large enough profit to make up for financing game Y in the first place.
Like another anon said, vote with your dollars. If you want to change things at Capcom, vote with your dollars, and see if you can't convince others to do the same. If game Z looks good, try it out, and, if you like it, buy it. Then tell your friends that Game Z is pretty cool and they should try it out. In the end, if you really want Game Z2, this is the way to get it. hell, maybe Capcom will put out Game Y after all, because it was similar to Game Z, and Game Z sold well enough that they're willing to give Game Y another shot. It's not like these cancelled projects get thrown out completely, a lot of these times elements from these cancelled games show up elsewhere.
That all being said, Asura's Wrath, as ever, still piques my interest, and I hope there will be a demo out before the game is released so I can try it out.
