Alright, time for speculation. By 236, the freedom fighters will be gone. There are going to be two new hero teams. I safely believe one of them is going to be Sonic/Tails/Amy.

Any thoughts about the other one?

That Sonic/Tails/Amy one's a safe bet. The second is probably going to be the Secret Freedom Fighters, maybe named Team Freedom? I would guess at Rotor and Bunnie, but she's all wrapped up in Antoine's mess and he's not very stealthy. I'm honestly having a hard time figuring who would be on the second roster, although it'll probably seem obvious in retrospect.

I think the team of Sonic, Tails, Amy has been confirmed by a solicit. That leaves the other team as Antoine, Rotor, Bunnie; or in case Antoine can't make it for some reason (hahahaha), I get a feeling we'll see more and more of Elias, so Elias, Bunnie and Rotor.

The Freedom Fighters aren't known for infighting in the first place, I'm not sure why that needs to change now (ESPECIALLY since the team being formed at all is because of infighting in the first place.) There's enough going on that I don't think they'll need to be tearing each other down to be interesting.

They may not be X-Men level dysfunctional, with Wolverine decking Cyclops every five minutes, but the Freedom Fighters work better than Team Sonic at providing opportunities for a little friction, some good natured snark, and a little wuv. There's a reason they added 7 of 9 to Star Trek: Voyager, and not just that she was hot. It's more interesting when there are sparks between characters. Negative sparks or positive ones, it's all good.

>The Freedom Fighters aren't known for infighting in the first place,

They're known for being more than the Get Along Gang. In the expanded cast you get some interesting relationships between the chars. Antoine initially clashing with Sonic, growing toward mutual respect, with his romance with Bunnie slowly being planted, watered, growing, and blooming, the Moonlighting-esque relationship between Sonic and Sally, and very frequently some butting of heads with someone that's popped by to help (Knuckles, Rouge, Shadow, Silver, etc.). Plus the non-SEGA characters can go in interesting new directions, while the SEGA chars... it's not impossible for them to, just harder to do it in the confines of SEGA's wishes.

Just good buds Sonic and Tails, accompanied by Amy-the-girl-not-allowed-get-anywhere is a team that needs some pepper, IMHO.

Am I the only one who assumed the Chaos Emerald disappearing was because, you know, a large explosion went off in the Death Egg?

I figured it just dropped somewhere. Maybe Froggy will find it. Maybe it landed in a river and is drifting around.

On chaos emerlads going missing, that actually makes sense.

I mean think about it, when sonic goes super, does he just decide to fling all 7 of them back in to random hard to reach zones? No, because as we've seen in the comic after everytime he has become super there has been no trace of a gem (correct if wrong). The closest time I can think of an exception is during super sonic vs. hyper knuckles and even then that could have just been a 15th gem knux picked up.

Now putting this all together, one could argue that when the gems are used for powering up huge energy consuming items or going super they just act DBZ style and fly off to the ends of the earth (or perhaps return to the special zone now).

Actually, the new team lineups sound like a lose-lose proposition to me for a more painful reason than actual story quality: fanbitching.

If the issues with just the SEGA heroes end up being good, annoying "game only" diehards will use them as fuel to argue that the book should always be like that.

If the issues with just the SEGA heroes end up being bad, annoying "game only" diehards will claim that it was an act of deliberate sabotage, to try to make the Archieverse chars look necessary.

Either way, it draws way more attention to the fact that the book has some characters from the games and some that aren't in the games. Sorta like if two groups with a long history of fighting had settled down, started mixing with one another, and weren't really going after one another's throats any more, and then someone comes along and splits the room into the two groups again. Here we go again!

>1. Roboticizers work.
That's not a retcon, because it wasn't intended to make it like it never happened. Instead, Robotnik was trying to turn off the field that caused the roboticizer not to work, not to make it so it never happened in the first place. Doing that would have been a far more major change to the world.

You're pushing really hard to make this out to be something it's not. It's not them going back in time to change the present. It's not the writer completely ignoring something major. It's not a sudden change of character. The ten second thing was likely in there because of Genesis; since Ian had to put it in there, the build up to #230 was far greater because of the end of #225. The gap likely wouldn't have happened if we didn't have Genesis.

>>164197
>Not really. The BEM only covered people who were once robots, so Sonic and Robotnick were immune, but Sally wasn't.
Actually, we don't know the exact extent of it all. When we first got leaks of Mecha Sally there were all kinds of debates as to whether the anti-roboticization was a blanket to everyone, or if it was only those who had been previously roboticized. I don't think we ever got a firm answer/conclusion.

If it was a blanket application, then *everyone* is now subject to roboticization again. If it wasn't a blanket, then the effect may still be in place; Nicole said the beam would be inverted "to this exact spot", meaning Sally. If the field of the beam hit the entire room, then the effect is still in place because Sonic and Robotnik obviously aren't robots. But if it was indeed just her immediate area, then we can't be sure that Robotnik's plan worked. He hasn't tried to roboticize anyone else yet.
>> No. 164471
>>164466
But we KNOW the beam hit the entire room. That's why Metal Sonic, Silver Sonic, Nicole's handheld, the roboticizer itself and other mechanical crap in the room got fried. Eggman even says something like "I guess the immunity wasn't undone..."
>> No. 164503
Ian himself has stated that were it not for the sonic generation tie in mandate sally being gunned down would not have happened. I am pretty sure it was here so you can check the archives.

Eggmans' robotcier plan failed. The immunity was not lifted and sally was turned due to never getting beam injected in the first place. Had eggman managed to go through with the plan his legion and everything else robotic on the planet would have exploded, some mobians would have turned to bots, and humans would become statues.

They said "spend several issues on something referencing the new game, in some way". Genesis was not in the original plan, it was something shoehorned in to please SEGA. And, in that light, not bad.

From what I've seen... it looks okay. Awesome if you absolutely loved Sonic 3; all the environment look like straight rips from it.

Personally I'm going to wait until they "finish" Sonic 4 and release it all on disc.
>> No. 164912
I was pretty blown away from what they showed in that trailer. I've been waiting for Tails to become a playable character again for so long, and I hope this means they can start bringing Knuckles the rest of the cast back into the realms of actual importance. Team up combos are a really good idea too. Environments look like they have a lot going on in them, and the graphics are a huge step up from Episode 1. They don't even look like the same game, its insane!

All in all, it looks like they're actually experimenting with the formula again as opposed to trying to emulate it. From a design standpoint, that's what Sonic 4 needs to be. It's hard to tell if they've covered every point of criticism at this point, but I am hugely excited.

It's painful, because there honestly is a little good Sonic fanart on Deviantart, so it's worth the odd browse. But there's just so many STUPID people there it boggles the mind. And I'm getting more and more annoyed at the imbecilic Deviantart policy that says "it's perfectly okay to post scans from a comic you didn't make, even the key panels from a book not even out in stores for another week, provided you give a black border and make a 'demotivational poster' out of it".

Autistic individuals tend to enjoy video games (especially older ones) in general. One of the key traits of autism is a love of repetition, and wanting things to always happen basically the same way. Games where things are programmed to always follow specific patterns are thus well-suited to them. Moreover, a key element in the Sonic ad campaign was pushing the idea that Sonic was the coolest of the cool. Generally speaking, kids with personality disorders tend not to be popular. So there you are, someone that loves repetitive games, who isn't cool, who wants to make friends but isn't very good at it, and then Sonic comes out... in retrospect it's hardly surprising how heavily the character was latched onto by kids with personality disorders.

Oh, that's not to say that all Sonic fans are messed up in the head. Okay, well, yes, we are, but not all in that particular way. But things were pretty much set up right in the original recipe to guarantee a fanbase which would include an unusually high proportion of people with poor social skills and a love of keeping things exactly the same.

Oh yeah, you got to love how blatant the stealing is on Deviantart. I swear 90% of the anime-related stuff on there is traced from something else. This includes Sonic. Everything is either recolored promotional art, cheap re-renders of cutscenes, or just shitty sketches. The original stuff is usually either fetish-based, or so appalling bad you can't even click on it.

I suppose all of this is a consequence of their user base being made up of freaks and whiny teenagers, but still they need to get their house in order.
