Guys I need help.

I want to read Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, and Tales Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. The problem is the continuity is a fucking mess. Half of Tales Vol. 2 is designed for Vol.'s 3 and 4 which I would like to pretend do not exist. And half of Vol. 1 is non-canon, but some canon ones aren't actually by the original creators yet they aren't listed in listings online. Not to mention, the microseries's and one-offs that are canon to Vol. 1 as well yet are still separate from the main comic (Raphael, etc).

So what I would like is for someone to provide me with a list of canon Vol. 1/Vol. 2 issues in release order (Including microseries's, Raphael and all that jazz) and the Tales issues that don't have anything to do with Vol. 3 and Vol. 4.

I love how many parallels there seems to be with this new line and the original toy line. The new Turtle van type vehicle has that platform on the side of the vehicle, they've got that huge new sewer playset, and it looks (at least to me) like the turtles facial expressions are sort of reminiscent of those older figures.

Still, I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to get the new figures. I think I'm going to wait pretty much for when they actually start popping up before I decide.

This is kind of old news, but I don't believe it was ever mentioned.

The TMNT issues of IDW's Infestation 2 event are being written by none other than Tristan Jones. If you don't recognize the name, he wrote many of the more noteworthy issues in Tales of the TMNT Vol 2. Seeing his name (and this gorgeous Hellboy-esque art) has me very excited for books I normally wouldn't give a second thought.

Infestation 2: TMNT is going to be two issues long and starts next month.

TMNT #7 is out tomorrow, and the preview is here today!

http://www.freakinawesomenetwork.com/2012/02/advanced-review-tmnt-7/

Tomorrow can't come soon enough!
Krang's body's design is absolutely sick! And I like that the turtles' trenchcoat disguises are all unique to each turtle. Just a nice touch, I feel.

Leo and Donnie still don't see eye to eye, but am I the only one who feels their inability to agree to anything makes much more sense than when it was Leo and Raph butting heads?
>> No. 163611

but am I the only one who feels their inability to agree to anything makes much more sense than when it was Leo and Raph butting heads?

With Leo as the leader and Donnie as the brains of the operation, it does make sense for them to clash on how to run the team. It is also refreshing to see someone other than Raphael argue with Leo. I think I got enough of that from the CGI movie.
>> No. 163612
>>163609
How did Leo and Raph arguing not make sense? Raph was the one who wanted to charge into everything and kick ass first, ask questions later, while Leo is the one who keeps a cool head and prefers to use stealth. Yeah, I know I'm stating shit everyone knows already, but that's why it worked in the first place.

But actually you could make Leo argue with any of the turtles if you write it well enough. Like Leo constantly scolding Mikey for his immaturity and Mikey telling him to try and live a little.
>> No. 163793
Im okay with Leo butting heads with EVREYONE as long its not the FOCUS of a whloe damn moive.
That and bicthing about needing to fight more crime when they should just be happy they dont get attacked by ninja, aliens, monsters and killer robots everywhere they go.
But then I saw a clip TMNT 3 from a shitty review and it hade Raph bitching about them not doing ENOUGH crimefighting, so I guess its "natural progression"?
But after seening all the shit that had to go through in the 200X cartoon it was just really jarring for me...
But it did awesome prequel comics.
To bad I only found them last year.
Awesome looking Krang by the way.

To be fair, that movie did kind of play up the ridiculousness of the 87 show without really acknowledging just how stupid its own series could get.

Then again, you could make the case that it was trying to celebrate the goofiness of TMNT in general and the 87 turtles were just the best to represent that, but yea I can see why he might think the movie was being mean-spirited.

I tried reading the original comics, and I just can't get into them for some reason.

Maybe it's because I've already seen the 2003 adaptations of these issues and am just seeing the same story again, or because they're a bit on the wordy side, but even though I love TMNT...I just find myself bored reading these, like I'm reading them when I feel like I have to and not because I want to.

I feel the same way about the original comics, honestly. Sure, they're what started it all, but the original movie and the 2003 series told the same stories, and they did it much better.

Well atlest read the epic that is City at War.
And no, I will not take the but I already watch the 2004 episode with the same name as an excuse. That had only 3 part, focused only on Leo and was just a little bit useless at the end do to Shredder being alive.
The comic was 13 part long and the ending of v1. 15 if you count the set up with Casey in issues 48-49 so you know what his deal is.
Also its the story that introduced Shadow Jones.

Nothing new with the bios for the turtles, although, Mickey being described as someone with a huge case of ADD is pretty funny. Mickey longing for the real world is a good angle for the character and I can't wait to see it play out on the show. Not sure what to make of Don's crush of April, though. Granted, there were those little moments in the 2003 show, but Don crushing on April feels so weird. I'll keep an open mind, but I'm already dreading the fan art this will likely produced.

Splinter looks a lot better than his toy and his color scheme has a ying-yang vibe to it. April also looks much better, but the angle used for her bio makes her face look weird. The "indie rock vibe" comment is making me think of her as one of those Hot Topic wannabes. (Go back to your Arcade Fire, April!) I will say this though: Anyone who uses a laptop to beat the shit out of people is okay in my book. Her bills must be murder.

Shredder looks a thousand times better than his promotional image used for one of Nick's attractions (must be the darker colors), and his origins is influenced a bit by the Mirage comics. Not sure why Shredder has a adopted daughter named Miwa, when we have a perfectly good Karai right here.

Overall, the upcoming Nick show looks promising. While the 80s cartoon will likely be a key influence for the new show, it will still have an edge to it from the comics judging by the character bios.

Actually, I was pretty excited about the Raphael one-shot on the new comic when it showed another new "mutant" (well, besides Old Hob). It's just because... dunno, aliens "got too mainstream" to me from that point on? lol

Some stories with mutants on volume 1 worked pretty well, like the one with the mutant leech (that one goes pretty over-the-top when it focuses on the old man in the river).

See this crap... that doesn't work. The original back story is already complex enough. Why would anyone want more complications, anyway...?

All the... stuff... they did for the Transformers movie didn't improve anything at all. The "complex" visual they gave to the characters made it a damn mess of something that could have worked perfectly.

See, here he's going off into "it's storytelling, it's art, you have to be allowed take creative risks" nonsense like so many others.

Dude. It's a video game. It's not low-price passive storytelling where you sit down and watch/read it like books/theater/movies/TV. It's a game. You pay a (fairly steep often) price and then you put in a few hundred hours of active participation. Yeah, but all means try for making something that's got fantastic storytelling too, but don't kid yourself - nobody plays a game for a long time to be told "you win as much as possible. Which means you get to choose between watching your beloved cheerleaders die or your beloved coach die. There is no trophy, and you can't go to Disneyworld because it just got nuked. Also the gatorade you drank had the Mutaba virus in it so you'll by dying soon. But you still won... as much as anyone can."

I know that after Ebert's remarks there's been a sense among many video game fans/makers that we've gotta show that games can have great deep storytelling too. And that's true. But don't kid yourselves, these are still games, and the depressing tragic no-real-winner endings that would have worked in other mediums are inherently going to always get an "oh this is just bullshit" reaction if used in a game. Plus there's the whole blatant lie "multiple endings" claim on their behalf.

MovieBob is always a tool.
