Fun Splash Mountain Facts:

It was originally called the Zip-a-Dee River Run, but Michael Eisner wanted it to cross promote the film Splash.

Many Imagineers dismissed a flume ride as too pedestrian for Disneyland, but finally conceded to the idea as a way to draw traffic to the forgotten Critter Country and make use of the animatronics from the faltering America Sings.

A version of Splash Mountain was considered for EuroDisneyland, based off of Pocahontas rather than Song of the South.

Kinect Disneyland Adventures marks the first time the Song of the South characters have been seen in CGI.

Is Kinect Adventures like virtual Disney Land? Cus that'd be cool if it was like the whole park and you could do shit. I cant afford to go to California or Florida
>> No. 161282
Huh, hadn't realized we hit the autosage.

Also, towards the whole Splash thing, Eisner wanted them to throw in Daryl Hannah Mermaid in there somewhere, but was promptly told no.

The opening of the attraction included an Ernest TV special where he gets to be the first one to ride. Also a really horrible rap Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah
>> No. 161284
Another fact! The original design for the log boats had the front shaped sort of like a plough, with the bottom in the water and the slope angled up towards the riders. You can imagine what happened whenever they hit the water. But when Eisner and his son went for a test run they got utterly soaked.

After they were done Eisner said something along of lines of 'The ride is great, you gotta do something about those logs!'

Pretty much, though no Star Tours, Roger Rabbit or Indiana Jones. Game's essentially a minigame collection based on the bulk of the rides in the park.

This made me realize that there is a Disney movie for every continenet, but if you take out all of the "modern" stories, we dont have a "fairy tale" for Australia? Dammnit, Disney, that place is a treasure trove of myth! Get on it! I want to see the Dreaming!

I think, Hercules aside, Disney's pretty reluctant to cast Gods/deities as heroes- and doesn't most of Australian folklore revolve around deities and spirits like that?

It's the same problem with Egypt. All of their stories star omnipotent deities. People prefer mortal heroes.

Hey Disney people, what happened to this movie? Dinosaur. It had so much potential, they even made an entire studio for it, but it ended up being the Land Before Time in 3d. What gives?

Well maybe not literal box-office competition, but serious pop-cultural competition.

Between Dinosaur's lukewarm reception in spite of making 350 Million Dollars and Wild Life being too mature for Disney, that was basically the end of Secret Lab, though it did give Disney the basics of their CG department set-up now with the whole "model manipulation via Tablet" thing starting there for facial expressions on the Dinosaurs and being refined for use in Chicken Little and beyond.

As far as US publication of Disney comics go, BOOM! Studios lost the license, but their kids-only imprint is still doing okay (the Adventure Time comic book is selling ridiculously well, so I'm told, and there are a few other titles put out by kaboom! that are pretty good).

Marvel is obviously tipped to continue, but even that is a little uncertain, given that there's a Disney Digicomics app that is basically doing what BOOM! Kids/kaboom! had been doing, which is basically cherry-picking Disney Italia stories. It's mostly Paperinik and X-Mickey, along with a few reprints of stories that've already been translated, like Wizards of Mickey and Ultraheroes... I think (seriously, does anybody here have that app? I'm almost kind of interested in it...).

"Good Dreamworks" sounds about right. I read a Time article about it this morning, and it was first conceived around 2004 when PiXAR's future with Disney was in doubt and for some reason Disney just didn't seem interested in fairy tales anymore. In the eight years hence, that's obviously much less of an issue, but since the original director left the film's got a lot more brawnier.

I was looking forward to it when it was first announced, but I'm less sure of it now that I've seen it in motion. There's been a lot of rewrites and there seems to be a steep learning curve attached to it, being a fairly radical departure from previous PiXAR fare into a genre of historical fantasy that a lot of other studios are already well-established in. It's a bit of a gamble.

I'm just so frustrated that it's yet another "angry rebellious princess" conflict. It's tired old motivation that's been done a million times before, and it's a little bit insulting that this is the kind of story they decide to tell as they make a huge deal that it's "Pixar's first female protagonist!"
We know you guys can write well-rounded female characters, you've done it many, many times before, without literally making their femininity an obstacle.
I'm hoping it's an angle that fades from importance as the mythological aspect jumps in, because Scotland is one of my favorite settings and I really want to like this movie.

Ditto, but the utter lack of attention they seems to have paid to actual Scottish lore, traditions and such even though its a given that sources from that period (10th century) are hard to attain to get accurate accounts. Its the apparent lack of Lore that I find the most hurtful because there is so much that could have been done instead of "Wise Woman makes curse must cure blah blah learn lesson." Bad Habit: Not warming up for exercise

Best Way To Defeat This Bad Habit: Rumor has it he has a soft spot in his heart for his long lost sister’s advice, as well as in his pulled muscles. Figure out what that advice is and you just might get him to stretch after all.

So apparently that Avatar at Disney World thing is starting to fall apart. James Cameron's Ego and desire for a Pandora that isn't screen based (including shooting down the idea of a Soarin with those dragon things concept) is one of the issues, plus with the Avatar sequels in development hell and the lukewarm to negative response to the idea, it might just shrivel up and die.

It's like Disney went through the artist departments of Nick and CN while they weren't looking and took them to make shows for them. Which is impressive. Maybe Disney might get Genndy to make a new show for them, and maybe Disney will be nice enough to give his show a proper ending for once, unlike CN.

Spector's said Epic Mickey 2's going to have voice-acting and a better camera.

http://mynintendonews.com/2012/03/16/epic-mickey-2-is-likely-to-be-multiplatform-and-will-feature-co-op-voice-acting-and-better-camera/

>I would definitely address player concerns about the camera. That was the number one complaint we heard, but I will defend to the death the quality of the work my camera team did on that first game; there is a whole GDC talk about that sometime, too. The camera in the first game was an amazing piece of work that people don’t appreciate. We took the hardest problem in gaming and then made it even harder through our game mechanics – which people don’t get – but we know we could do better. And so I would do that and I would do full voice. I mean I made a decision on the first game not to have characters speak. It was a mistake and I would fix that.

>Q: Maybe Nintendo will take you up on that advice for Zelda…

>Warren Spector: No that’s exactly why – There are two reasons why I didn’t do full voice. I mean the one is Oswald’s a silent film star, and if he can’t talk no one will. I thought that was funny. And I wanted not just to honor Disney history, but I wanted to honor the Zelda games, the Mario games, the Japanese RPGs that I love, none of which use full voice. But what I didn’t think through was these are Disney characters. No one expects Mario to talk, no one expects Link to talk. Everyone expects Mickey, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, the Mad Doctor… everybody expects those guys to talk and I let them down. So, we are going to fix that if we have ever do another game.

It'd be funny if they had an in-joke in the game about it.

"So Mickey. What do we do nex-"

"Wait you just talked!?"

"Whu? Yea I can talk."

"Wow. Sorry I just... didn't realize-"

"Yea well SOME OF US lived to be used past the 1920's!"

>player concerns about the camera. That was the number one complaint we heard

Whoa whoa whoa, stop right the fuck there. The number one complaint was that ALL of the hype for the game came from the awesome concept art and the idea of having a more edgy take on the Mouse (Which Specter even admitted early on that the game would have) and everyone was let down because none of that actually happened. True, concept art is usually not like the final product, but that doesn't change the fact that it's what EVERYONE was interested in. All because Disney is too chickenshit to "ruin their image".

I can agree to this but also add that the gameplay just wasn't very fun. Shameless cut and dry fetch quests, the 2D segments that you couldn't skip over in between new areas, how painting something didn't stay painted when you came back, the attack mechanic was kind of sluggish, same with the actual platforming that didn't feel fully in control with the Wiimote, boss battles were also kind of lousy, etc. The camera and the concept art's tone was not the only problem.

I still feel Kingdom Hearts is a much better Disney franchise. Frankly I think its the best videogame series that carries the Disney name.
