As a lover of Ghibli's stuff I can say that I love how Korra is SMOTHERED in Ghibli influences while ATLA had hints and notes sprinkled throughout.

I'm slightly less enthused about the Ghibli paint thrown on everything. I've never liked their style all that much. I prefer the way Gainax animates things.

I don't think the all the statues light up every time the Avatar state is used, that was probably just because Aang was nearby all those statues in the Air Temple.

I'm making a prediction that at some point in the story, the equalists will purposely force Korra into the Avatar state. Sort of like what that Earth Kingdom general did to Aang, but this time with the ensuing destructon being part of the plan to public opinion against the Avatar.

This will be a huge turning point for her character as she realizes that not getting a handle over the spirtual aspects of being the Avatar can have dire consequences.

If this happens, you all owe me an internet high five.

I hope this sort of thing happens. ATLA had a few "anti-Avatar" moments like that one town that was all "herp derp Kyoshi killed our town hero" but it was pretty limited. Having to deal with people questioning the very role of the Avatar at all would be good development for Korra. Plus, I notice that a lot of the setting of LoK is about constraining the role of bending to minimize damage. I think the reason why all the cops are metalbenders is because it's a way to have Earthbending without tearing huge boulders out of the streets and walls of a city (cue Beifong yelling "Stop blowing holes in my city!"), as opposed to a lot of the Earthbending in ATLA that took place on big empty expanses or natural formations.
