As for what spoilers should go here, major ones like character deaths, plot tweeeests, or talk about the full episode (if it gets leaked) should go here. Minor leaked stuff can probably go in the main Korra thread.

Just because the pic of Toph's statue was leaked doesn't mean she's dead, fellas. Statues aren't always erected in memory of those that have passed on. If they had legendary achievements of awesome, they'll get a statue, dead or not. Pic very related.

Statues of martial artists are best when thoroughly dead. Pic also very related. I also theorize that Toph became a great blind pianist making her music popular all over the world before dying at the age of 27.

Let's see... it's looks like Korra was heading to the island where Tenzin lives (or looking for it anyway), got sidetracked to Republic City, interrupted a trio who were "soliciting donations", got into trouble with the metal police (cause she caused more damage than the crooks did), failed to get on the good side of Toph's kid, and had to be bailed out by Tenzin.

I actually hope it doesn't get leaked. Firstly because it gives us something to look forward to, and secondly because this constant drip, drip, drip of awesome sneak peeks is keeping anticipation high, discussions constant and my lips salivating. Dumping the episode all at once would cut the excitement short and leave us twiddling our thumbs until the premiere proper. This way, Korra remains in the geeksphere's eye and all this speculation is half the fun!

I've been wondering, if Korra is from the Southern Water Tribe, could she not be related to Katara and Sokka? Her mom, or her dad, could be Sokka's grandchild.

I'm just saying, it could be possible. And awesome.
>> No. 97180

Well, they got that influx of immigrants from the Northern tribe, so it's not as sure as it used to be. But the Southern Tribe's population was pretty low, so chances are pretty good she's a cousin or something.
>> No. 97182
>>97180

She might also have some Earth Kingdom ancestry, like if one of the men in Hakoda's navy took a war bride back to the South Pole with him. I think that'd be pretty fitting for the Avatar to have some foreign ancestry considering how mixed families are going to be a big thing in Republic City.

From a Nickelodeon Executive Q&A on Reddit:

Q: Has Nick ever considered using viral marketing techniques? I’m asking because many people now suspect that Nickelodeon, or an employee thereof, is responsible for the recent flood of Korra-related leaked clips and screenshots. If not, how do you usually handle leakers?
A: I don’t know if the company has any plans in place or in the future but I do know that we are involved in social media and are always going to have to adjust to how people hear about or receive our stuff.

With that said, no the leaks were not intended. People who steal stuff and go against the wishes of the creators by posting stuff are scum. The world does not belong to you (one) just because you think it does and it hurts people even if you don’t think it does. How we track people and deal with them I probably shouldn’t say…other than “hopefully harshly”.

Q: How do you guys feel about the Legend of Korra leaks around those parts?
A: I answered this elsewhere. I’m not a fan. I mean I know it has been forever since the last series and people are excited but it is still wrong. It screws a lot of people out of their hard work and is damaging in many ways.

I was very happy with all of the positive feedback it got, if anything good came out of it. There was very little negative feedback which is good…but I didn’t expect there would be as it is awesome.

Commenting on the new commercial here:

I was bracing myself for the narrator from Hell, after reading the long /co/ thread about it, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's your typical Nick TV commercial for the kids, and it'll work out fine.

>dat background with Statue of Libert-aang
>dat water-cyclone
>dem modern-yet-Eastern suits with frog buttons, god I love frog buttons
>dat 2000-year-old historical treasure

I am seriously looking forward to the cosplay that comes out from this show. I've never been much of a fan of much of the super-saturated colorful cosplay from ATLA since the strong colors that work in the cartoon don't translate as well IMHO to the real world, but things seem more faded (from more nation-mixing?) and a lot of those suits would turn out really nicely in real life.

Yeah, agreed! That statue of Aang from a side perspective really showed off how badass-awesome it is.

As for that 2k-year old historical treasure, it reminded me of a similar prop from the movie by he who must not be named. I thought that fight sequence (in the movie) was downright stupid, so I'm like (evil grin emoticon) to see (whatever it was) destroyed by Korra.

Someone on Tumblr speculated that the reason Korra's crying in the trailer is because she went into the Avatar State. Makes sense, because the ground's all ripped up, but also because I can imagine the Avatar State being even more emotionally shocking to Korra than to Aang. Korra has had no real connection to the Spirit World compared with Aang, and maybe this is the first time it hits her that she's not just a person who can bend all the elements, but actually something more with all that power.

>Mako is one of the top players in the Pro-bending Arena and captain of the up-and-coming team, the Fire Ferrets. He is a powerful, focused and technical fighter

>Toza, a former Pro-bender, discovered Mako fighting on the streets and invited the two brothers to live in a room in the attic of the arena and work odd jobs to pay rent, which allows them to focus on Pro-bending

>Bolin has a great sense of humor and is really comfortable in his own skin. Unlike his brother Mako, he’s an easy-going optimist who never seems to be in a bad mood. Bolin plays in the Pro-bending Arena alongside his brother and enjoys all the attention from his girl fans, although he is still a novice in the world of dating.

>Tenzin serves on the United Republic Council as the representative for the Air Nation, and takes his role in the leadership of Republic City very seriously.

>Tenzin is a traditionalist who works hard to protect and transmit Air Nomad teachings and culture. He embodies the peaceful, calm, spiritual nature of the Air Nomads.

>Amon’s second-in-command, The Lieutenant, is an intense, disciplined fighter who augments his amazing skills with two electrified kali sticks. No Metalbender cop can withstand his attack.

>A barrel-chested businessman with a big personality, Hiroshi Sato’s family lineage extends back to the first Fire Nation colonists. He was born to a poor family from the Dragon Flats district. A kid with big dreams, Hiroshi worked from a very young age to help support his family. When he was 18, he convinced a wealthy banker to invest in the idea of automobiles for the common man. Before long, he was churning out Satomobiles in his first Future Industries factory. By the time he was 25, the ingenious industrialist had made his first million yuans.

>As the daughter of Hiroshi Sato, Asami has lived a life of luxury but don’t let her fancy clothes and polite manners fool you — Asami has a tough side too. She’s an expert driver and isn’t afraid to mix it up on the racetrack. Asami has also had the best self-defense training money can buy. She’s a big fan of Pro-bending and goes to every match.

Fascinating stuff!

The harbor being called Yue Bay makes me wonder if it's new/artificial; Aang using his Avatar State powers to sculpt the landscape into a suitable position for a major city. And that bit about the Satos makes me wonder if race car driving will be the non-bender's counterpart to pro-bending.

And the United Republic Council is divided up into the pre-existing nationalities. I wonder how Mako and Bolin are classified. They're clearly from a mixed family, but does the administration of the city view Mako as a Fire Nation citizen and Bolin as an Earth Kingdom one? Or can they together declare for one or the other, like how (in the Promise Trilogy) Kori Morishita is legally a Fire Nation citizen despite being an earthbender.

I'm actually guessing that people like Mako and Bolin are solely Republic City citizens (or rather, citizens of the "United Republic of Nations"). The leaked intro seems to suggest that the U.R.N. is a sovereign state with Republic City as its capital, so I'm doubting that citizens of it would be anything but URNers. As for the Council, it'll be interesting to see if the council members are meant to represent the four nations like ambassadors or delegates from those nations, or if it's a fuzzier representation of each group of bender and associated culture.

>mfw watching this episode

This episode, man... I'm really amazed. The animation is great, the music succeeds at that "Asian jazz" thing they were wanting, and I love the voice work.

It's interesting, the whole approach of keeping Korra all locked up in a compound during her training. I imagine that, since it was really close to her parents' home, it was something they started building once they found where the Avatar was. I can see its usefulness to keep her safe, especially if the anti-bending movement was already underway at that time, but damn I wonder if she had any childhood friends except Naga.

Speaking of Naga, I'm in love with this character now. And she really is a character, more expressive than Appa. This was the first footage I saw where the "dog" part showed through, and Naga is definitely good dog best friend.

Katara's just there to provide continuity and have all that requisite dialogue so the audience doesn't have to see the comic-con talk to know who Tenzin/Meelo/Ikki/Jinora/Pema are. Something of a whirlwind conversation but got all of the basic characters set up. I already love Tenzin and Pema as exhausted parents who can't hold all these Airbenders. Jinora's sweet, Ikki's hilarious and is great at cutting off stories about Zuko's mom, and Meelo actually is awesome despite my initial reservations. UNHAND ME STRANGE WOMAN

Republic City looks awesome and I really hope that we get an official high-detail map of the whole place (50 internet points to whoever makes Republic City in Minecraft).

Naga actually looks ferocious. There were times when Appa was supposed to be intimidating but I never felt it, but man look at those teeth and wide eyes as Naga prepares to chow down on those kebabs.

Oh, and
>20 yuan for a few kebabs
Korra honey you're getting so ripped off. That many kebabs shouldn't be more than 5 yuan tops, trust me.

>dat bum
And no I'm not talking about Korra. That vagabond is quite the character, and really shows how snappy the dialogue is.

When it came time for the fight with the gang, it really did a good job of showing Korra as inexperienced with all of this. "Hoodlum"? Sounds so "HALT EVILDOERS." And her laughter after beating the "chumps," and that growl in her voice as she yells "you're not getting away!"? Really showing she's out of control.

I can't wait to see more of Lin Bei Fong; she's serious enough to be a good semi-antagonist (but not villain of course) for Korra.

I can't help but always be reminded of good ol' GJr. Murph and I both thought one of the reporters at the end looked like GJr!Yue, and I imagine young Yi Lin to be just like Ikki.

I am so excited for this show!

Downloading episode now so I don't have a definitive answer, but I'm guessing Ginormous Madman is the new internal title for the Avatar team (Bryan dabbled in electronica under the pseudonym "Ginormous": http://www.myspace.com/ginormousmusic). I suspect this move was long coming...unlike other internal teams in Nickelodeon, the Avatar people didn't have their own title.

I have my own thoughts on Tenzin being a traditionalist and "representing the air nation" despite said nation having four members and the United Republic blurring the boundaries between the four, but I'll wait until I've seen the episode before sharing my thoughts.

Thanks, Nick! Your incompetence is a star!

So, after...uh...shenanigans, I finally managed to snatch the episode.

I really like how effectively it shows Korra blundering into a delicate situation with all the grace of a rhinoceros.
Case in point: "SEE HOW SHE'S OPPRESSING US!?"
"Whuh!? But I'm not-!? You're oppressing yourselves!"
"THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE!"
And that awkward press conference at the end just goes to show how much she's winging it as far her responsibilities as Avatar go. It made me really feel for her, she's got one hell of a lot of growing to do before she's ready to fulfill her role.

Also, is it just me, or is Tenzin slightly more intimidating than we first thought he would be? The scenes with his kids go a long way toward humanising him and explaining why he's so stressed out, but his scene with Lin especially highlights that the man's got some serious steel in his spine.

It was smart of Nick to send out only the first half of the premiere. I'm panging for more here.

I think this means Toph and Zuko have to be around or have only died recently...or way earlier than everyone else so that they could be reborn as someone that could grow to the age needed to train Aang. Minimum of 12 I guess...

Not much, big time.

Buddy, I know we're a slow board, but we can have our bursts of activity, so I'm not surprised to see a rush of stuff now that the first episode is out. That said, responding with three posts to a single reply is getting out of line, especially for something so simple.

Lin Bei Fong has likely been chief for many years, and has put up with God knows how much thanks to Triads and growing disenfranchisement over the Anti-Bending sentiment in the city. She's Toph's daughter and probablly knows about shit Toph pulled off and got away with for being Toph Bei Fong. Who knows? Maybe she resented or disliked all of that, maybe she had a rough relationship with her mom?

Whatever, we'll see as the show moves along. But seriously, back off.

(Also, friendships trancending lifetimes was just that, friendships, and Roku said "some" so it's not all. Also, Gyatso wasn't Roku's Airbending master, he was his fellow student, but Gyatso trained Aang, so the theory falls through.)

Are you seriously implying that someone given authority by human beings has more so than THE WORLD ITSELF? Are you listening to yourself? The reason the police are allowed to do what they do is because of the authority that is given to them. THE WORLD has given more authority to the Avatar than what some silly cop in one city has. And trying to brush it off as merely "voices in some kids head" is no different than saying a cop "is just some person in uniform and I don't have to listen to them" nonsense. Just a way to ignore authority.

Lin's no longer top dog when the Avatar shows up, and she knows it.

I'd like to point out to you that Katara was Aang's master after he began training under Pakku but came to mastery of waterbending under Katara. And as we know they travel. Hence Gyatso could have left with Roku and finished his training afterword or maybe being a "native" that already has years of experience more than Roku in Airbending he eventually was placed above him. It's all very possible.
>> No. 98137
>>98135

Correct, Katara was Aang's Waterbending master, but I don't see Zuko or Jeong Jeong there for Korra's Firebending test, and I kinda doubt Toph taught Korra any Earthbending, otherwise Korra and Lin would have met already.

Also, the Avatar isn't the end-all-be-all ruler of the world, it's not their place to stomp in and dictate the actions of politicians and monarchs. Aang didn't use the Avatar card to get out of legal trouble in Chin village, he didn't just demand the Earth King listen to him when he needed his help to win the war, and so far? He hasn't been able to bow Zuko to his will in Yu Dao, he had to present his case every time and hope people listen.

Lin Bei Fong is the Chief of goddamn Police, and not some secret-police bullshit like the Dai Li, these people follow due process. She's the one running the show with the enforcers of justice, law, and peace. That shit is her responsibility and duty to the city and the people within, and you know what? That's Korra's duty as well, to Republic City and the rest of the world, but Korra's still in her loose-cannon-Mel-Gibson-in-the-first-Lethal-Weapon stage, and she could get people injuried or really piss them off. Is Lin being hostile? Yes, perhaps unrightfully so, but Korra can't run around doing whatever she wants, either.
>> No. 98138
Yeah, when korra knocked that Satomobile off-course and through the front of a shop what if there had been people inside?

Even just smashing up two shops and tearing up a city road extensivly isn't a good idea when its just catching a few mobsters, Korra learning to be less of a destructive saviour is going to be something she'll be working on.

Jeon Jeong wasn't around along enough to qualify and there is only ever ONE real master it seems (the one you become a full master under) and it was never his destiny to be his teacher. Just like it wasn't Bumi.

>I kinda doubt Toph taught Korra any Earthbending, otherwise Korra and Lin would have met already
That makes no sense. Lin would have been an established adult why would she bring her daughter with her? It's not Tenzin bringing his kids because he needs to look after them.

>Also, the Avatar isn't the end-all-be-all ruler of the world, it's not their place to stomp in and dictate the actions of politicians and monarchs
Obviously. But it has authority just like a cop does as he does without being questioned the Avatar is due that same level of respect but people often forget that. Lin is someone that should be well aware of Avatar and most likely knew Aang. She is being a bitch, it's that simple. She is probably upset that she is going to come in and now have the city after she feels like she's worked for her place or whatever yet ignores the countless times the Avatar saves the world where she is just one person in charge of one city.

>Korra can't run around doing whatever she wants, either.
Obviously, again. And as we clearly see Korra DOESN'T do whatever she wants or rather whatever SHE COULD do like simply take food from the merchant. Criminals that were not being attended to properly (how many times and how many people have they visited with their extortion racket already?) by Lin due to her failings were dealt with by the Avatar. Things that fall within her jurisdiction as well. She's older than Aang was when he saved the world AND the Avatar so are we to simply have her stand by when things go wrong? No, that is not right.

The metalbenders tear up quite a bit in their efforts to grab Korra if you notice. Don't forget that they likely earthbend as well and destroy the city further when engaged with other criminals.

And let's not forget the poor souls that fall and break their neck when they go to look out their window and the wall collapses because a metalbender grappled through there and the integrity went to shit...those poor souls.

But her doing what she exists to do is not going to be wrong. She does have training you know, far more than Aang ever did.

Why do you trust cops? They have received training. That's it. They are still human beings but we hold them to higher standards.

She has training AND she's the Avatar which is akin to divine authority in what is her jurisdiction which happens to be keeping the peace.

Cops were being cops not accepting that others have authority OVER them. Hell, have you not seen them bitching at each other ever when someone from another jurisdiction that has EVERY right to do what they're doing interferes and they HINDER THEIR INVESTIGATION which is a crime for any normal citizen but still do it anyway? Those incidents may be dramatized for our enjoyment but they really do occur.

Let's use some context clues on the Toph bit. Giant statue of Toph wearing armor similar to Lin, plus Metalbending police means Toph was likely the previous Chief and the one who established the metalbenders. Also Korra says Aang and Toph were friends (and she used to be Aang,) not "Toph trained me, too."

Also, you're assuming the Metalbenders tear shit up, too, despite never seeing them do it. Korra tossed tons of rock and ice everwhere, tore up at least two storefronts, and beat up cops. That's not "keeping the peace" that's breaking the law. Considering that police showed up in minutes (they prolly have phones in the city) I say this wasn't a failing on the police's part as much as it was "not having psychics on the police force."

You seem them tear up the road while pursuing her. And their grappling does damage the buildings if you actually look.

They are both in the right only they need to step aside and or assist her. Not try to stop her for doing their same job with likely better training then them. Or do you think they can honestly solve every incident cleanly? Korra was nowhere near as destructive as she could have been.

And I always stated that Toph/Zuko may or may not be around. Just that it seemed to be possible from everything we know. Katara outliving her seems odd, and we know some of them are still around.

Also, gonna call bullshit on Korra being more trained than Aang. She's older and physically stronger, but Aang mastered the Avatar State. Aang, by the time he was 13, was a fully realized Avatar, master of all four elements, and an Air Master, meaning a monk who understands the sanctity of life and what it means to defend it. Korra's only mastered the physical side of three bending styles three or four years after Aang understood all of it at her age.

She's been groomed to be the Avatar.

You are correct that she likely does not have a lot of Avatar state training but...the Avatar is about more than just the Avatar state.

She has more training for her stage debut than Aang ever did. He was thrust into saving the world while only knowing Airbending. He learned the rest as he went along. She has years more of training than he did when he started.

Yep, I would think so as well but then again he doesn't seem to say anything at all which doesn't feel right. And Katara being there makes sense as it is her home. Someone could have completed her training and then left to return home as they see fit. It was up to Katara's judgment as to whether or not she passed her Firebending test.

I'd REALLY enjoy a solid answer. So very, VERY much.

If it was indeed Zuko I don't think he could stick around with being Fire Lord and all. Or he could have died long before this and it's someone else. I think just asking the creators would be much faster at this point.

That was one single Metalbender cop trying to capture Korra after she did tons of damage and tried to run away, (which caused more damage) instead of accompanying them to the station and explaining. Besides that, they apprehended Naga pretty easily, even with Korra riding her, and covering for them were several other police right behind the guy who got ice-walled.

Vigilantism is illegal, and the Avatar is not above the law. If she's deemed not guilty or given a pardon, that's different. In any case, Korra was the one who did way more damage to the streets by Earthbending them, raised a huge wall of ice over a bridge, broke the walls (walls!) of storefronts, and knocked shit everywhere.

>>98158

Except that Aang was the youngest Air Master in the Air Nomad's recorded history, and he managed to pick up the rest of the elements by the time he was 13. Aang mastered the Elements as well as the spirituality behind being the Avatar before Korra did and that means he was a better, more complete Avatar at a younger age than Korra. Is Korra a better bender than Aang? Perhaps, though she hasn't learned what he has, just yet.

>>98162

I would say that the several old masters of the White Lotus being the ones overseeing her training in Firebending already answered that. Unless Korra's Earthbending teacher was Toph's reincarnation, in which case I would imagine he/she would be around Korra's age, I doubt her Earthbending training went any differently. Besides that, Tenzin is the one teaching her Airbending, so he would have to be the reincarnation of Gyatso. Something really odd, unless Tenzin has two or three past lives to make up for the ~120-140 years between Gyatso's death and Tenzin's birth.

The Avatar is not a vigilante. Please think for a moment, I don't think you realize that law is a system created by human beings. Because he was forced to. They went with the traditional Avatar training for Korra minus her actually going anywhere. Seeing as she dons traditional Air Nomad garb it's likely she trained culturally in the other nations as well. I'd also like to point out that

>so he would have to be the reincarnation of Gyatso. Something really odd
It's not at all. Not to mention they both draw their names from one real actual human being. The years between when one life and the next mean absolutely nothing. The fact that Korra wrecked a whole street, two privately owned shops AND caused at least two traffic accidents before she even fought with Triad is INDISPUTABLE. It worked for Aang. He didn't say "I'm not guilty because I'm the Avatar" to Chin Village, and that was with a crooked system. He listened to the Earth King when he asked Aang to stand down after the Gaang's attack on the palace, and again, he isn't just arresting Zuko or throwing out the people of Yu Dao. Comparing two law enforcement agencies working under the same government with separate and distinct jurisdictions is apples and oranges to a law enforcement group dealing with four people who caused a ruckus, one of whom happened to be the Kung-Fu-Action-Dalai-Lama. If Aang wrecked shit somewhere, even as accidental collateral, he's expected to address it, and he usually does.

>It's not at all. Not to mention they both draw their names from one real actual human being. The years between when one life and the next mean absolutely nothing. Word of God says the Avatar cycle only takes about a week or two to reincarnate to the next one. If there's reincarnation among the normal populace (I assume there is) it's likely the same. If he's the reincarnation of Gyatso, having a few life-times in between would make more sense, but I doubt Toph and Zuko died so much earlier than Aang did to the point that Korra's bending-masters were of sufficient age and experience to be worthy of teaching the Avatar, above even the master benders within the White Lotus.

>Seeing as she dons traditional Air Nomad garb it's likely she trained culturally in the other nations as well. I'd also like to point out that Toph was also a master and maybe even younger than Aang.

She was Aang's age and master of one, single element, just like Aang was when we were introduced. They're both equally proficient at their native elements. Also, that's likely just Tenzin being a traditionalist. Korra wasn't in traditional Fire Nation garb during her test, like Roku was when he learned Firebending himself, she was in modern training gear.

Aang approached Chin diplomatically and still paid for it. You do realize they were possibly going to kill him? Do you really think he would have still put up with that? And guess what happens...they whined to the Avatar when things got rough for them and begged for help...it was the only reason they let him off. There's a chance I'll admit that if she did say she was the Avatar to the cops they wouldn't have done a thing to her. Perhaps that was her way of not abusing her status and trying to be what she saw as reasonable.

>were of sufficient age and experience to be worthy of teaching the Avatar
Minimum is the age of 12. That's a lot of wriggle room to work with. Just stating the facts.

Well I don't why it matters she was the master of one, she never had the capacity to learn more. Her garb looks very fire-nationy in her test in fact she's wearing what her opponents are wearing. I believe you are mistaking it for the Pro-bending gear, they are not the same attire.

Police officers have killed innocent people before and then gone back to work. Yep.

And the damages are all going to come out of the pocket of the criminals anyway, that's what happens in a court of law when police accrue damage to the environment. Or the goverment pays for it.

But to say she really did that much damage? Really? You do realize just how much worse that could have gone, right? Um, you do realize entire towns were destroyed in battles in the previous series, right? And how restrained she was in her actions actually compared to what you know she is capable of?

Force is required to stop people. Damages occur. Metalbenders had NO PROBLEMS with killing her by snapping her neck by trying to grab her head and yank her off her mount which could have gone on to do God knows what without it's master (no different than pulling a rider out of a vehicle and making it crash which is what you are bitching about to begin with) but that's fine? It's fine because metalbender cops are doing it? But the Avatar who likely has more training then these cops do can't?

Oh my God, lern2law. And that FBI example was pretty poor. If a small-time force found corruption within the FBI, it is THEIR responsibility to do something about it. One way is to submit evidence towards a Congressional investigation. In any case, the "higher" status of the FBI doesn't make them immune to being investigated. Especially not by some small-town cops.

The Metalbenders weren't responsible for nearly the same things Korra was and if they are, they have somebody to answer to. If not the proper authorities of the city, who does Korra answer to?

Yes, Chin Village was gonna kill Aang and he wouldn't have put up with it had it come to it, but he was willing to stand trial and allow them their grievances, even before circumstances let him "serve his sentence."

Also, yes, the pro-bending gear is also red, but besides the gear being similar, we don't see Korra in traditional Fire Nation clothes, nor any of the training gear Sokka had on. I therefore am making the assumption that it's modern training gear.

>The Metalbenders weren't responsible for nearly the same things Korra was and if they are, they have somebody to answer to. If not the proper authorities of the city, who does Korra answer to?
The Avatar answers to the people just like any law enforcement does. But they obviously have more say than the people do at times. Korra like every Avatar before her is obviously capable of reigning herself in when it's necessary. She deemed her actions as appropriate for the situation, what YOU say or how YOU feel about it is irrelevant. That's the truth, really. Officials will do as they like.

I don't know about you, but that shopkeeper isn't going to be maimed and his life placed in further jeopardy...nor will they potentially kill any other people that don't go along with their extortion racket and the price we payed was a smashed up windows and some broken appliances.

For the Fire Nation. The people training her were wearing the same things and they have a Fire Nation motif. Doesn't seem hard to put together. Though I agree it isn't 100% it's the most likely thing considering we know it's part of the Avatar's training traditionally.

Wow. I cant believe this argument went on for this long.
Let me put in my two cents.

Definition from wikipedia: vigilante is a private individual who legally or illegally punishes an alleged lawbreaker

Technically, Korra is a vigilante, or was acting like one for that one instance. She's definitely not a bad person, and I dont think her actions are a bad thing. However, the creators of the show obviously intended to showcase her as a good hearted, but impulsive and destructive person. It was obvious her actions were dangerous to those around her, though with good intention. Being the avatar does not give her a free ticket to be a walking hazard.
Was Lin being too tough on her? Probably/Possibly
Are korras dangerous actions justifiable just because shes the avatar? no. That goes with the police too though. Theres wrong on both sides here people, and I believe thats what Bryke wanted the audience to see. Korra's still young, so the point of showcasing her flaws early on is so she can grow as the show progresses.

Uh, guys - let's try to remember that this is an action-adventure story.

Why are there a lot of explosions in Hollywood action movies? Cause it's more entertaining. I was rewatching Cowboy Bebop, and yup - a lot of stuff gets blown up and destroyed. Try to remember what happens in American superhero shows - property damage galore.

Even in shows wherein the creators are mindful of (real) property damage and civilian injuries (Clamp's X, Persona 4, etc.), we still get to see a lot of stuff get destroyed.

Persona 4 - fighting takes place in the tv world. Basically, we still get a lot of BIG explosions without real life consequences.

Shana series also is conscious of property damage, etc. though people still die since they are slowly removed from ever existing at all.

Anyway, I still see such as hand-waving property damages; however, at least they sort of give explanation for why their city, town, village isn't in ruins.

Also will include Power Puff Girls, which had an episode poking fun about this. Somehow Townsville can reconstruct itself overnight, but when the girls tried crime-fighting in the city, they got slapped by a humongous repair bill.

Pixar's The Incredibles, of course, made this a major plot point, and I have to say I have no problems with Mythbusters causing unnecessary explosions.

THE FUCK. this fucking fandom, like seriously? are we actually pissing and moaning about lin VS korra?

FACTS:
1) Korra handled the situation irresponsibly, and should be held accountable for her actions, being the avatar does not exempt her from that.
2) Lin was a bitch to Korra because she wrecked stuff. We're just used to seeing everyone shit in their pants when they meet the avatar. So what if one person doesn't give a shit that this girl can bend all 4 elements? It doesn't mean that Lin doesn't respect Korra's destiny, she just reacted to Korra's actions without the unnecessary, and completely optional consideration for her status as avatar. If you destroy that much shops and property (especially for just 3 crooks), being the avatar doesn't mean diddly squat. It's irrelevant to the discussion. Avatar or not, you did all that damage when it was UNNECESSARY. Times have changed, and the those in power aren't abusing it, at least not to the extent the firelords did, and lin was completely justified at being pissed at the damage korra did.

all this stuff about korra being more important than lin because her destiny is to bring balance to the world? You can't put korra ahead of lin just because she was born the avatar. The spirit of the world chose her not because she was already nicely packaged as a perfect avatar, fully realized. Every avatar has to work towards being a good avatar capable of restoring/maintaining/keeping balance. So arguing that Korra is right because the world chose her, is unreasonable.
